What's the best pinpointer...

I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on pinpointers. I've seen all these brass ones on ebay and those are crap, you couldnt tell the difference between a coin and a rock with that.
There are 3 stand alone probes that I've seen online. The bullseye (white's), the wizard, and the vibra-probe.
Anyone used any of these? I've heard some bad things about the bullseye. Is it really not worth the money?
I just spent a little under 800.00 for a brand new sealed explorer xs, and I really dont wanna spend another 180.00 on an x1 probe, even though I know its probably the way to go. I probably shouldnt complain about the money, I got a great deal on the detector. Of course, my girlfriend doesnt think it was worth it, yet. :)
Thanks!

Spend $180.00 on the Sunray X-1 Probe. It does the job the best for what the Explorer has to offer. By the way it will only work with the Explorer.
If you can't afford one now, then at least save up for one and buy it later. You DO NOT have to have it, but once you have, it makes target recovery a breeze.
IMHO, I believe that YOU need to be happy with metal detecting , so don't try and impress anyone except yourself. Most people who do not understand what it is will rarely agree with your choice of hobby or passtime....even if you put it in their face.
By the same token , maybe a suggestion and a hint to a loved one, like your girlfriend on an idea for a future birthday or christmas gift would not go astray.
HARDNOSE

can i ask where you got a brand new explorer for 800 i have a few friends that would like to get one <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

The X-1 probe is the Mightiest Mother Of All Probes period! It will be the best investment you ever made! Besides saving you lots of time locating your finds its side benefit is that it can show you depth because it is also a small coil capable of seeing up to 3 inches. Invest in the best!

I was talking with the detector place that I bought my Explorer from and they said that the sunray guy is 6-8 weeks behind schedule in installing the probe onto the upper shaft. Is there any other way to install it by someone else that can do it right away?

What is the only probe in which you dont have to dig first?
Answer: the Periscope....
so why should i buy an X-1?

The Wizard Vib-probe I have only has a range of a quarter inch or so, limiting its possibilities as it wouldn't beep on a coin that is another inch deep or an inch off to the side of the hole. I don't even bother to use it. There is another probe called Crazy Ed's that has a range of 2 to 3 inches. It doesn't plug into your detector. It doesn't discriminate. It can be used with any detector. It retails for $79.95. I'm told most of the pinpointers have a range of an inch or so. HH, George (MN)

Besides diggin's half the fun!!! What, did you have to wear a sailor suit when you were little and weren't allowed to play in the dirt?? Just teasing, don't get your drawers in a bunch!!
The periscope DOES sound like a cool piece of gear but I just don't see myself dropping down that kind of money for one.

I totally agree with You Sgt! My first machine didn't cost that much!!! I first thought the X1 was a little pricey but it's worth every penny!!!

It sounds like I should go for the X1 probe. I know I wouldnt purchase the periscope.... The guys pricing that are CRAZY! I'd NEVER pay that much!!
The wizard gizmo looked like it was junk, just wanted to be sure...
Oh and the explorer I got was from a post on the buy/trade forum off this website. The guy I got it from was a dealer. I wont reveal his identity, though. It was brand new, and sealed. The guy down the street from here wanted 965; I'm glad this website exists!
