What's the best ML for relics?

I want a really good machine to compliment my F75 Ltd2. Right now I have the XP Deus but I'm having trouble liking it. Would really like to try a good minelab.I love my F75 been hunting w a F75 for 6 yrs. It seems to do best at finding lead. It's a bullet monster. However I feel the Xp beats it on other brass items. Which Minelab would you guys recommend to hunt relics? I enjoy trying other detectors. I've tried the Tejon, MXT, AT Pro. Thanks for your input.

I would try the Fisher CZ3D. Very deep hits hard on relics and old coins.

Hello.
From my experience I'd recommend the Sovereign GT.
Had one and have to say it is deep and will give you tons of information.
Sold it to try a tesoro and regret this.
Try to get a nice used one.

Regards

I like the E-trac as an option to go with the F75 or any machine like that...meaning a fast recovery higher frequency machine.

I found the E-trac and even the older Explorers to be deep on silver even a bit more than the F75. I never tried the CTX so I have no experience there but I also would never use one just due to cost.

Just my opinion but I would look at a relic machine that does it a little differently then the Fisher or Deus if you are looking at is an alternate rather than a replacement. Again the Minelabs do it differently and in fields with deep silver they do work so well. Not that the F75 or Deus do not just that they seem to hit some targets deeper in fields. Now of course in more trash the Deus or F75 is a better choice as it will be also for lower conductive targets.

E-tracs are now affordable....just build up that forearm muscle.

Even a good Explorer SE is a nice addition.

The explorers and even Sovereigns are a whole new experience and will give you many hours of learning.....

Yeah That's what I'm using right now. The F75 and Deus. I like the Deus. It has many many good qualities. I just prefer my F75 because of the amount of hrs that I have on it and it's a awesome relic machine. I've just never tried a Minelab. I had a buddy that used a Sovereign GT. He did really good w it but he said it was heavy. I think I would like to try the Etrac. It's just that I have been told by a few people that it wasn't in the same ballpark as my F75 when it comes to relics. I listed my Deus yesterday I might would trade it for a newer Etrac.

I would disagree. The 705 was meant to be a cross-over coin + nugget machine. Hence it will never excel in either category . There will be better (minelab) nugget machines and there will be better (minelab) coin/relic machines. That's the cost of a machine that tries to be a compromise.

Thus I agree with Azsh07: The Etrac, SE, or Explorer.

Anyone want to chime in that has used the Etrac for relic hunting? Does the Etrac have multiple frequencies? Have a back light?

Never excel in either category? My 705 w/ 10.5"DD MF coil matches the F75 on deep coins easily. I have compared them on un-dug 10" coins several times. Audio and TID response is basically the same. The HF coils work very well in iron infested areas.

I can't see how anyone who has actually used both an F75 and an E-trac could say that the E-Trac is not in the same league as the F75. That is absolutely bias psycho babble.....period!. Both are Major League machines...but they do not play the same position!!!

I have used them both..I have used the F75 and T2 since they were first released...I also have owned and used every version of the Explorer through the E-Trac with the exception of the Safari.

Now I do PREFER the F75 if and I say if I can only have one machine and that is because it performs better than the Explorers in heavy iron trash. Or I should say...I like it better in trash. But....that is just one scenario....however one I hunt a lot in. So if I can only have one machine then I would default to the F75 or T2.

But to say the E-trac is not in the same league....bwahahaha....silly!! Albeit you could say they are not the same style would be accurate. The Explorers take a lot of time and patience to get the results on deep silver. It is a machine with subtle characteristics on deep targets and one can not just pick it up...use it for 4 hours and have it down. It takes a season at least to start to get a handle on the subtle sounds of deepies. Now...most targets are easy to hear and ID...since most are less than 10 inches...so right out of the box in a stock setup it is deep....but to get those deep silver targets etc you have to learn it.

I have friends who only use the Explorer series and have mastered them so to speak...they dig some deep silver.

They are heavy..well more so nose heavy...just the way they are designed. This can be an issue for some...like me. But I used them in fields mostly where I was going slow and trying to really clean out an area.

It is worth a try....you may liek it...you may not...but I think you will find it fun to learn and play with. Definitely spend time on the Etrac classroom..there are some unique techniques to using one compared to the F75.

Sure. But you're comparing that to an F75. What if you compare it to a Explorer II (or SE or Etrac) to that same 705 w/10.5 " ? And if you start to add minerals and salt (like on the wet-salt beach) , you can kiss any comparison behind.

As you have mention a 'ML' and 'best' for 'Relics' then in my opinion it would have too be one of the GPX range,i doubt that any other machine would touch it really especially for say CW relics in that bad soil conditions,of course this suggestion is mainly made on the 3 main criterias that you mentioned (ML-best-Relic).

That's the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Someone that has used both. So you're saying the Etrac has a long learning period? I guess to master a detector they all have that. I know I hated my F75 when I first started hunting with it. I love it now. The main issue I have w the F75 is the VDI numbers can be all over the place. Wish the numbers were more stable. I heard that the ML Etrac does better in this department.

It is more of a learning curve on deep faint targets..they are subtle and it can take a while to be able to discern between a faint target and say..just ground effects noise like changes in minerals. It also takes time to figure out which of the many settings is the right combo for your area and type of detecting.

I like the sound the Explorers make as it is very different from any other detector.

The E-Trac is just a different machine compared to what you have. If you use it and "get it" then you will like it..but some never get it...or sometimes it is not the right machine for their area or detecting spots. That happens.

Someone mentioned the GPX series....I do not include these as they are PI units and I have used the GP Extreme for prospecting and my issue is the iron ID feature is not useful on deep targets...but i have not used the newer GPX machines..they are very very expensive and out of my price point.
