Whats the best coil for the V3

Sphincter

New member
I realize this is subjective but I think I'd like to know what the majority uses. I know from past experience I've used the stock 9.5 on my DFX and spectrum E but would I get a degree of more accuracy on a small DD? Thanks in advance

If you are hunting forested areas you should do quite well with the stock coil. I have a 4x6 V tuned DD coil that I use for trashy areas and git extremely good depth with the little coil and even at that it covers 6" with each sweep.
A lot of the guys really like the 5.3 concentric coil and say they git excellent depth also. Some say the 9.5 concentric coil is the way to go especially on salt water beaches but I think if I was going to purchase another coil I would go with the 12" V tuned coil. You would cover a little more ground with each sweep and also git a little more depth, I think if its non trashy enough to use the 9.5" or the stock 10" coil it should be ok to use the 12" coil. HH

Thank you! That was very Helpful. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to write that for me. I've been out of the loop for about 4 years now. I see the advancements the metal detectors have made and look forward to using my V3.

I second the super 12.

5.3 Eclipse for most general hunting, especially if it is trashy and/or brushy.

For lower target count areas and a little better coverage, the 950 has done well.

If I was heading for a beach, a plowed farm field, or any out-of-the-way site that might have low target count and I can benefit from the coverage, the 12" coil has done quite well.

Naturally, any of these that are 'V' tuned should provide the best performance, but I did well with a non-V 5.3 Eclipse and 12".

It's all a matter of where we hunt and the volume of targets we are likely to encounter, but those are my personal coil picks, in that order of preference and use.

Well, to be quite honest, the areas I hunt always seem to have alot of those old shotgun shells. I cannot tell you how many times I've received a great signal with my old DFX and opened up the ground to what initally resembles an old button only to find out it's one of those blasted shells again

That just tells you that the site is not hunted out... keep digging those "12th" buttons and sooner or later you'll dig a real one.
