Was out hunting a baseball parks today with the Deleon. Had the sense set at high (9) and disc up to coins. Got a good hit in 95 with silver coins pegged and depth at 8". So I could make sure of the PP (which is usually good enough in DISC), I switched to All Metal and used the VCO to give me second opinion, making sure it wasn't a can. After pinpointing, I laid the Deleon down and proceded to dig with my razorback (lesche knock off).
I noticed as I was digging, the detector was making a strange sound, similar to a rise and fall of the threshold tone in 3 second increments. Then I thought "no way". I raised my razorback and fanned it back and forth by the hole. The tone followed my movement. Without touching anything, I went to my tool box in the car, and got my tape measure. When I got back to the hole, I measure the distance from the hole to the coil, laying straight up on the ground and still in the AM mode. Believe it or not.....26". More than two feet.
Impressed as I was, I realized that when I air tested this unit at home, I was unable to get that kind of depth on anything, even the bigger stuff. Once out in the open, I guess the unit can get better depth with the lack of AC inductance and RFI associated with the homestead, plus the freedom of cranking up some power.
Just thought I would share that.
