You can hunt all day and find nothing but relaxation and in a blink of an eye, you can make a great find. Today was one of those days for me. I headed for an area of an old park that I have found many IH's and Barbers, but not much recently. I figured with some hard hunting I might get lucky and find one hundred year old coin. I did manage a very small pin that appears to be brass. I found this ornamental pin at 7 inches which is a true testament to the sensitivity of the 7.5 dd coil. I managed a couple of clad coins and as I was heading to a different part of the park, I was hunting the edge of a steep bank. I got a 38 to 40 signal showing two arrows and I figured a clad dime. From 3 or 4 inches comes a 1941 merc. I was amazed thinking I had been over this spot before. There was a depression in the ground with real old tree roots around the edge of a 8 foot in diameter circle. Within 15 inches I get a 42 to 44 signal that is three arrows. A very worn, no date SL quarter. I immediately moved 15 feet and started gridding the immediate area. Nothing found until I got about 5 feet away from the first two finds. From two inches comes a 1947 roosie dime. I hunted to just below the first two coins and I get a booming 44 signal. From 4 inches I see big silver. A very nice, but slightly bent 1941 half dollar. Every silver coin was in a five or six foot diameter circle. Obviously a spill from the forties. I am very aware of where I have and have not hunted, but I must have mistaken this spot. I do know that I have walked over this spot when starting hunting or heading back to the truck. Don't ever turn your detector off until you reach pavement! R.L.
