hi blowfly. greetings from the states. indian cents are a big deal to many here because their discovery tends to date an area, and usually accurately. silver from the same time frame usually appears in short order. all indian cents are now 100 years old, so yeah, i can easily see where one would get excited. finding just one breaks the 100 year mark. an indian cent is a landmark find here for anyone.
as a longtime hunter, i remember the days when it was nothing to go out and find a handful of old silver and old coppers in a single afternoon hunt. a veritable pocketful! it's not that way anymore. so, i find it very disapointing to find clad change - i usually leave it, and find another spot to go to. let someone 50 years from now find it. i'm in this for the old stuff. i can afford to buy my batteries and gas - i don't need to find a bunch of clad change to cover those costs. i know, i'm spoiled. i can afford to be.
i know for certain that we all have different attitudes in the many different countries where people metal detect. what's interesting to a mongolian metal detectorist guy may not be interesting to me, and vice versa. i suppose it all comes down to what you think is important, what your're looking for, and what you consider to be fun in this great hobby. i like to see what our aussie friends are finding. thanks for reading, and hh,
