being an aussie, most of your terminology for your coins is of little value to me.however all of our coins are valuble to us.historical, hysterical or what ever.i say this because after reading many of your posts, you don't like zinks, pennies or clad.we eat wheaties, you don't.what's the big deal about indian heads?just a lost coin,i would think.i have heard you don't have many to play with and if the situation in the world money crisis continues, maybe even less! a coin in the hand is maybe better than one with bush.mmmgh! hh blowfly

hi blowfly. greetings from the states. indian cents are a big deal to many here because their discovery tends to date an area, and usually accurately. silver from the same time frame usually appears in short order. all indian cents are now 100 years old, so yeah, i can easily see where one would get excited. finding just one breaks the 100 year mark. an indian cent is a landmark find here for anyone.

as a longtime hunter, i remember the days when it was nothing to go out and find a handful of old silver and old coppers in a single afternoon hunt. a veritable pocketful! it's not that way anymore. so, i find it very disapointing to find clad change - i usually leave it, and find another spot to go to. let someone 50 years from now find it. i'm in this for the old stuff. i can afford to buy my batteries and gas - i don't need to find a bunch of clad change to cover those costs. i know, i'm spoiled. i can afford to be.

i know for certain that we all have different attitudes in the many different countries where people metal detect. what's interesting to a mongolian metal detectorist guy may not be interesting to me, and vice versa. i suppose it all comes down to what you think is important, what your're looking for, and what you consider to be fun in this great hobby. i like to see what our aussie friends are finding. thanks for reading, and hh,

Well said Gray:beers:

Well blowfly clad is a term we use for modern coins. All of our modern coins are a mixture of metals. The inner core is "clad" or covered with the outer cover. When we are finding clad it usully indicates a modern site. For the most part I hunt public spots. I am finding clad (this means post 1964 for dimes, and quarters.). I really do not mind clad it is fun to find something, and it adds up.

Dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar coins pre 1964 are silver. If you are finding older coins it is a very good site. I have yet to find a Indian Head cent. I do keep trying though, Beale.

Very well said Ghost :please:. I guess to some it does seem those of us that favor one
type coin over another are spoiled . I am guilty also, not a clad digger myself. I cannot explain
the thrill popping out that first Indian, and am almost embarrassed to admit how long I had
chased him.....years. In the persuit I had dug many LC and silvers, done countless hours
of research and had almost given up when the first of 3 suprised me this year. It is Amazing
how something so small can bring such joy to the one who has sought it so long . Sure I could have bought rolls , but none would have meant to me what the ones I have found have. Most of us die hards have a
mental list of finds we chase, and as one is found we add another to the top.....Now Where Is That Flying
Eagle Cent :look: :chase:

thank you gentlemen, for giving me the time of day to answer, my maybe, mundane question.i live by this rule, one of many .if you don't know ask! no big deal.hh blowfly:detecting:

Well I guess I could say that I'm real lucky.. About five years ago while visiting some people in Utah, I was walking down an alley way with my detector and came across a loud sound from my detector. At first I thought it might be an aluminum can because the tone was so loud , but I dug it up anyway and to my surprise I found an old cigar box completely full of indian head pennies. About a 125 of them to be exact... Wow! What a joy that was for me that day. Later I found a silver pocket watch about four inches in the ground.. Not a bad days find, I would say.. Cliff

cliff60 by anyones standards that would be a fantastic find .a belated congratulations are in order i would think! yes i to have targets that i would like to find .gold sovereigns, maybe even a holey dollar or two.i don't need to find any more pre-decimal coins as i have stacks of those, but not the really good ones namely-1923 halfpenny,1922-21 threpence or a 1930 penny, there was only six made.we all have our goals. hh blowfly

hi gray ghost, after reading your responce to my post,it was not meant to rile, but to find out. now i know.what i said to cliff60 is true,i to have hidden goals.i was going to show anyone that was interested what my average weekly finds were only in decimal currency that i hunt everyday.i'm not a showy person ,but the wife says i should.having said that my bl__dy computer won't upload the photos.so all good intentions . if i get it to work,. you'll see. oh!by the way i only banked the clean ones $98.45 worth .see ya! blowfly

hi blowfly. i saw your post for what it was...a series of good questions. i think it's neat that detectorists from around the world can communicate in this medium. we have some rare dates wer'e looking for too...oh, they are so hard to find. i wish you luck on your quest, blowfly, and let us know how you do! hh,
