The 9 1/2 inch ProFormance coil runs a little more stable. The windings in the older style are set in a foam type material for protection, but the slightest hit against a tree, branch or rock in higher sensitivity sounds off the machine. Now the new ProFormance coil has the coil wire set in that hard black resin, so it doesn't make the machine sound off as easy when hitting an object. I have found that I can run my GTI at a higher sensitivity and get a little more depth as a result using the new coil.
