I could not tell you about the sunray but the 8" minelab works great and is well worth the money.

Hi Thomas,
I use the 7.5" minelab coil every time I detect. It is easy to pin point stuff while you are in ironmask without using pinpoint mode. I have found dimes down to 8 inches deep with the 7.5" minelab coil. I can get a 10" air test signal for a silver quarter while using the 7.5" coil. I don't know about the 8" sunray because I have never used one before.

I can't compare either. I have the 8" Sunray and think it's great. Sorry, no comparison though. Surely someone here must have them both.

I just sold my ML, electing to go with the SR8 because of it's lightness. You can pick up a ML8 used, very resonable compared to the SR, probably forty to fifty dollars less. There seems to be many more ML8's for sale on the forums and Ebay. I don't think it's because of dissatisfaction, most were probably a freebie with an Explorer package. The ML8 gets very impressive depth and decent seperation, like it's big brother. The same can be said for the SR8, but if your a hunter that usually spends more than 4hrs. regularly on your hunts, the weight savings is a biggie. Either one will find the goods, HH
