What's a man gotta do.....

to scoop some dadgum gold!! My gold drought continues in spite of all my efforts. I've walked, scooped and dunked myself all in the quest, but still I dwell in the Land of Nada, at least as far as gold goes.
I'll start with a hunt on Monday. I arrived at the lake by 7:00 am and was in the water at 7:15, on the quest!! The wind was blowing out of the south at about 30mph and was kicking up some serious wave action. I got knocked off my pins more than once, but I kept at it until noon. The AT Gold/5 x8 coil/Grey Ghost Amphian headphones got me a fair amount of targets but retrieval was some real exercise. Bob awhile, scoop awhile!! I'm also really enjoying having my Propinter waterproffed. When hunting the shallow water, up to just below my waist, I don't even need a scoop for the recent drops, I can bend or squat after I hit a target and find it with the Propointer and pick it up with my hand. Much easier...except for the wave business!!
Anyway, here's the take for the day!!

The big honkin' ring is of unknown metal, probably stainless with black enamel. Here's a closeup!!

So, I didn't make it back out till Thursday as things just kept getting in the way. This day saw much calmer water and I was one happy camper about that!! I was able to cruise right along and didn't suffer such a beating as before. I used the same rig this time and the AT Gold is proving to be an excellent fresh water hunter, no doubt!! Here's the take for the day!!

I managed 3 rings, one junker and two silver ones. Here's a closeup!!

And of course, any rings that fit BCM, also known as The One Who Must Be Listened To, go directly on her hand. The one with the stone was a perfect fit and she was able to show it off to the ladies at work today.

Ok, heres the thing..what do you mutter to yourself as you hunt an area? Its real important that you have some sort of phrase you audibly vocalize as you swing coil...for instance, if theres a lot of old grey pulltabs, sinkers and foil, you say, "Theres gotta be a pony in here somewhere"...cause you know nobody has found those targets..."What you talkin about Willis?" is a good one too, especially when you start hittin older clad, like nickels...anyway, you gotta come up with something, even if its just "That's my Huckleberry" when you hit that midtone...anything interesting and unusual,...gold pulls itself up out of the mud to hear what you might say next, so its real important that you mutter something as you hunt along... Nice silver by the way! silver don't listen worth a damn, this secret only applies to gold...

Oh yeah, I've got a few but mostly it's "Daddy needs a GOLD Rang, C'mon, Daddy needs a Rang!" using my best South Texas drawl, of course!!

Nice find on the silver rings, BCD. Gotta keep BCM happy. My favorite phrase I mutter to myself when I'm tired and finding lots of junk is: "no way I'm digging this target, but it sounds like I ought to." It's some type of twilight zone intuition and it usually turns out to be gold or silver. I don't try to figure it out, I just dig. I'm not tough, just too dumb to know when I'm beat. Lol.

do you have the gold switch on ?
me neather but it will change :detecting:
good finds :clapping:

BCD, I've been a HARDCORE Water Detectorist for 13yrs., and EVERYTIME Out is a Challenge!! You have to Deal with ROUGH Water/UNFRIENDLY Marine Life/DANGEROUS
Submerged OBJECTS and CURRENTS, and that's NOT Everything!! Furthermore, to Find G-O-L-D, You have to GO OVER IT!! If it's Not There to Begin With, You're NOT
GOING to Get It!! Unfortunately, all the GOLD &SILVER Jewelry being Posted is MISLEADING!! I know it's FRUSTRATING, but if you Enjoy this aspect of the Hobby!! You
Just have to STAY With It!! It AIN'T Easy!! HH, Les Robinson

Hi Bigcat, I remember the first time seeing gold in my scoop, I looked around to be sure noone was watching as I plucked it out, even turning my back to the sunbathers. It was for me at that point "Top Secret" lol. I was not ready to share it with the world until the glory moment passed lol. Then a bit of disappointment with the next few scoops, only silver lol. I learned quickly that the gold is a special treat to get and that if I wanted it that bad it would come as long as my focus was not purely on the gold. Since then combined with a huge amount of patience I pouted lol, just kidding. It'll come, when you least expect it too. Cheers and hh, It'll be in the scoop sooner then you know it. If it doesn't then hang your scoop on the mantle and ask Santa for a lump of gold lol.

You have the right gear and you are hunting the right locations, AND you are focused and dedicated to finding it, so you WILL. All the posts give a guy inspiration as well as tips about hunting styles and locations/situations...some hunters tend to modify a system and find lots of gold, they've dedicated their self, equipment, gear and got good at reading a location through practice. I will say any ring found is amazing, for a person to find a little piece of metal like that on such a big planet, the odds of it are astronomical, so whats a guy to do to increase the odds in our favor? I've sure learned a lot in the past few years reading the forums and watching the youtube vids. You gotta think on a big expanse of swimming area or sportsfield theres at least 6 gold items in there waiting to be found, on a beach, not all are within the detectors capabilities, but they are there none the less, and if a guy gets there at the right time, and gets the coil over it, its YOURS! Our sand moves a lot up here, I walk over a place where I found a gold ring last year that is now under 6' of sand, it was only blown out for @3days last October, so it would still be there had I not been in the right place at the right time. Inland beaches are different of course, but from the looks of the targets you recover, a fellow would think theres gotta be a pony in there somewhere! Go get it BigCat!

I've been hittin' the wet for nearly that long myself and have pulled up plenty of goldies in the past, just not lately. It's as if it's avoiding me!! I know I have to get a coil over it to scoop it, but it seems that all anybody is wearing is this non-precious stuff anymore. As long as folks keep buying the Stainless Steel, Titanium and Tungsten Carbide stuff, they will keep making and selling it. There should be a law.....all jewelry will be made of GOLD, nothing else!! We need more finds like these!!

Man! That's some beautiful gold there BCD! I agree with you about this being the most physically demanding aspect of our sport, gold hunting in the water that is. I was thinking about this today, as I was deep in the water at sun-up... and doing a little math...theres @300 million Americans, maybe 10% go swimming in lakes and rivers and the ocean..30 million...maybe 10% of those wear gold, 3million, maybe .001% have lost it..? In all the bodies of water around this Country? In depths varying from towel line to several hundred feet of H2O?...On a beach with 10,000 people, how many have lost gold today? Can a guy get out there and find it in such a large area? Is it a tiny 2 gr 10k? or a 14k heavy chain? This is the kind of odds we are up against...I estimate theres maybe 20 decent days in a year up here to hunt the Big water for gold, surf has to be manageable, water temp are also an issue, and then throw in the sand shifting around all the time, and the damn dredgers always doing beach replenishment further burying any thing lost long ago..then theres a hundred other detectorists out there to try to out hunt...and if a gold hunter has a job or family to attend to, cut those 20 days down to 10! Its a wonder we find anything!. Holy crap! Just thinking about it makes a fellow want to just hunt totlots and clad stab, or heaven forbid, take up golf! ps...I got skunked again today, but I got to see the stars fade away and the sun come up, some fresh animal tracks in the sand, found enough clad to buy myself a 24oz beer on the way home, listened to the radio, drank coffee, and had an adventure when the rest of the World was asleep..
