whats a good relic setup for the vaquero?

I just purchased a tesoro vaquero I live in pa and relic hunt for civil war items. The soil is really good. I don't want to dig a bunch of nails but I also want as deep as possible. The book is a good starter but getting info from fellow vaquero users is always better. I have been detecting for 20 years but getting a good starting point from previous users always helps in giving you an edge when tuning and setting up your detector. There's always tricks for getting better performance that the book never lists. thanks

There are no secrets here, the book lists it...its super tuning and proper ground balance. A larger coil will help you get a little more depth. You chose a fine instrument and should be very happy with its performance.

Ive also heard after you ground balance in all metal then switch to Disc.,Disc is more positive ground balanced than all metal, and
that you should turn the ground balance a tad to the neg. Ive not tried this as my soil is very mild.

hope this helps,

I should mention that the lower the discrimination the deeper it goes. So when you set your disc, set it as low as you can while maintaining the desired masking of unwanted objects.

Thanks I'll try some of these suggestions. I can't wait until the snow melts so I can give her a try. I have been searching for a new detector for months reading reviews and watching youtube videos ect. And tesoro is the only detector company that had almost all great reviews. especially the vaquero. I chose it because the cibola lacked a manual ground balance and and a few reviews said the tejon wasn't as good as the vaquero in hot ground. But I liked the dual discriminate on the tejon. But what the heck I can thumb that!
