I figure if anyone can help me, you guys can...what's a good price on a used MXT? Found someone that is selling one and says it has never been used....what's a great deal on this machine? I have a couple of lower end machines and am looking for something a little more advanced....what says the experts?

I believe he is about right $500 is a average price for a used model , could be a little higher depending how many and what coils are with it and any other accessory's that might come with it . Good luck you will love the MXT I bought mine used also and haven't had a bit of trouble with it . Theirs a good assortment of coils you can get for it also lots to choose from . Good Luck and Good Hunting

I lucked out and paid $300 for mine but the guy said he really needed the money.

That was just a week after I found an MXT with extra coil at a Pawn shop $275!!!!!!!!
Now that WAS a deal. I had called around but by the time I got over to the pawn shop
someone else had snapped it up. Interestingly enough the shop owner said it had been
sitting there for two weeks before anyone called asking if he had any detectors on hand.

I'd say the average is $400 to $500 used. I just happened to get lucky.

I just picked up my second MXT (Spare) from a pawn shop in NC. $350 with a stock coil and in great condition. I was lucky, the shop had it listed for $499.00 but apparently they needed a quick buck and marked it down. Times are tough even for the pawn shops. FYI...I found it on Craigs List by looking in cities outside of the major metro area. So if you are buying $500 is a good price but occasionally you can find them cheaper. I have been looking for a year by the way and this was the first MXT for sale I had seen.

SO....if I'm looking at a deal that is a White's MXT with nothing extra and a Garrett Pro Pointer for under $500 total I should take it?

Sounds like a great deal the pro pointer cost about $127 new so with the detector and the pro pointer should be a good deal . Thats as long as they both are in good working order . Good luck

Is there a quick way to test either of them...the guy lives 6 hours from me (I'll be passing through the area only) and he says the MXT was used once, the pinpointer not much more than that.... Do I just throw a coin on the ground and see if it detects it or is there a standard "test" to run it through?

>Is there a quick way to test either of them?<

Bring batteries with you. You can get some cheap ones at the Dollar Tree or Deals.
Don't wate your time at the Dollar Store. They started marking things up too high; you can
get some of the same things at WalMart for the same price and probably better, or
at least that beenb my experience here.

The MXT takes eight AA batteries and the Garrett Pro-pointer one 9volt battery.

Theres one on Houston craigslist for $400 or make offer.

Test on a few coins is probably a quick way to get a general check. I've bought a number of used detectors without any problems, but always had it in my mind that if the price was right, I could send one in for a repair and still come out okay. The MXT is a very good, versatile detector, especially if you add one or two of the available coil options and White's can make it right, if necessary.
