I been detecting a year now and saved up my clad and i think its time to get a new set of headphones.I have a set of whites headphone now they sim just alright , will a diferent brand make a diferance? and whats a good brand ? I have about 80$ to spend. I realy like this forum you learn so much here.Thanks..Rick

Rick, I went through this same question about two months ago when I got my MXT. There were a lot of inputs and everyone seems to have "their" favorites. I suggest going back in this forum to the 25th and 26th of September and read mine and others inputs on the Grey Ghost Originals, which I got a good deal on from Southern Treasures Detectors.

I personally prefer their top-of-the-line 'Wasp' model, but even the basic Killer B is fine. While having one or more accessory search coil is a must for versatility and success, it is second to owning a quality set of headphones. They are the #1 accessory to consider.

I have to agree with Ron the Grey Ghost Originals are very good headphones. I have had mine over six months and enjoy using them.

Thanks for the info.I went back on the posts and read about the gray ghosts. You said you had to drill holes in yours to make them fit right? Were they to tight too? They feel fine now. Because i am thinking about getting some. Rick ...

Rick, it wasn't that they didn't fit, it was because they were too air tight and were causing ear drum pressure! I just drilled a tiny 1/64th inch hole in the bottom so that pressure was released. Ron

Has anybody used the E-9000 headphones, and can you compare them with these other brands? Is there some difference in the tone they emit, that may help you discern whether a questionable target is worth going after? Or, are they all just about equal, the difference being how they fit an individual?
I got a used set of E-9000 about a year ago, and had to send them in. There were no problems in getting them fixed. I also have a set of SunRays, that have an extra toggle switch on them. I can't figure out what that toggle is supposed to do, though.
Between these two, I much prefer the E-9000. I have tried air testing them both, and I notice no difference in signal when I get right on the ragged edge of detection.
If there is some advantage to owning one of these others, please let my wife know before Christmas gets here!

One switch selects either stereo or mono. That's the one that when you change it, it don't work. For most machines it only works in the mode that machine was made for. This makes it more versatile because it will work with any machine.
The other switch enables clipping. Clipping limits the volume when you pin point or when you get that flattened aluminum can when you are looking for a gold ring. About blows your ears off. When you enable clipping it makes it bearable without affecting the volume of the weak signals.
I leave the clipping turned on all the time. Sometimes it gets bumped and turned off. Kind of makes my eyes bug out!

The Switch on the left side of the Sun Ray Pro headphones (when facing muff) is the limiter switch, which when on, limits loud blasts from large surface targets while still allowing even the faintest signals to come through. Effectiveness of this switch will vary from detector to detector. The switch on the right is the mode selector switch for detector compatibility. Hope this helps.

How does the limiter work on the MXT? I didn't really notice a difference by flipping the switch. Since I got these used off one of the boards, maybe there is a problem with them? How do I go about checking into it further?

The limiter on the Sun Ray Pro headphones, when used on the MXT works very well. When passing a quarter past the coil, and flipping the switch on and off a noticable difference in audio was noticed. This is from personal testing. You might want to try it again. If needed, they can be sent in for checking, however, warranty is covered only to the original owner. If you wish to have them tested I can find out the charge if any. Let me know.
