Whatever happened to Allan Cannon at Tesoro.....?

Sven

Well-known member
He hasn't posted in soooooo long. Rumor has it he retired from Tesoro marketing dept.
If so, too bad, thought he would have motivated the company to get off their butt....................

You need engineers with modern experience in microprocessor controlled systems to make a competitive new detector design. Tesoro apparently has none nor do they likely have the financial means to get them. Sad.

I didn't know he posted here.
But some months ago I talked to him at Tesoro, but as to what's happened in the last year, I don't know.
I'm curious to know and hope he's still there!!!

Common on,think about it,what do you do with a 'Cannon' you fire it,a very witty joke i may add from Architex lol

Ahhh. That went over my head. I missed the pun...
If that's what he meant

Right-----Ask Vince or Rusty, they will tell you.-----If you are going to talk to Rusty though--you better do it pretty soon--as he is going to retire.--------That's going to be a sad day for Tesoro when they loose that good man.

If somebody is really interested, pick up the phone and call Tesoro

Yeah it is a nice touch knowing Rusty tested the detectors before they left after a repair.
He will definitely be missed.
If he is retiring, best wishes to a happy and enjoyable retirement

Yes that's what I meant, (poor taste that it was).

With so many of the key players at Tesoro either retiring or leaving in this last year,it does make you think what will happen with the company in the future, they dont have the financial reserves for new top flight design engineers, nor business turn around folks who can reverse the companies current position. You cannot sit on the companies laurels from from previous years success, once again you can only repackage old models for a certain amount of times with new colour schemes etc for so long.

With no new models on the horizon, key folks leaving, other companies are bring new models to market 'that folks' want,as they do not have the big financial clout that other current top brand have,it does make you wonder what the future holds for Tesoro,if i am honest i dont personally think the future in the 5-10 year time duration looks rosy for them, that is even if they can last that long. Its basically catch 22 if you dont have the financial clout for investment in new technology then the decline will still carry on and you wont survive very long, its all right singing the praises from years gone by and you still using a machine thats decades old but alas the sad reality of life that does not keep a company going forward, others have invested for the future and growing.

"Yes, Allan left Tesoro."
Is that a quote from someone at Tesoro?

First Texas is eyeing Tesoro as a purchase.
Just a hunch.

Probably shouldn't forget that those machines that are "Decades" old found most of the great finds that have been made in this hobby and are still finding them today in 2018.

What's the first thing a detectorist today with a VDI high tech machine pays attention to?? AUDIO!!! then they check to see if the meter means anything. Another important factor to consider is that new designs can be produced in Turkey, Indonesia, China, and other third world countries far cheaper than they can be made in the US. using cheap labor.

I have used Tesoros for years but had to try one of the new high tech wonders. $1500 dollars later? and after much reading and practice I'm wondering today how many Tesoros I could buy with that money?

Indeed newbies to our hobby today are young for the most part and often come from a long line of gaming video masters perfectly at home with the current trend of VDI multi everything high dollar detectors.

But...if you put them in the field against an equally capable hunter with say a Tejon? or Lobo SuperTRAQ? a Shadow X2? you would see that the beeper would hold it's own still today. So...who could blame an American company such as Tesoro for not wanting to or be able to compete with foreign cheap labor? An impossible task to say the least.

The difference between perception and reality can be vast indeed...HH normx2

They must be real short on staff because my Tiger Shark has been in for repair over a month. I call every week and it's something else. I sent in an AT Pro to Garretts and got it back in a week. Same for Whites got it back in a week. I guess they are hurting right now.
