Hi all. Need some opinions on the coil to use for this situation. We are going to hunt a virgin attraction type park that is about 20 years old. They hold music concerts during the summer months and other attractions from the spring till fall. We are the first to have permission to hunt here. As there are rock concerts, there is beer and soda, so there is going to be tabs and bottle caps. I dont expect to find any silver, but do anticipate lots of Canadian clad, some jewellry, and personal items. I have a 3kz con, a 7.5 kz con., and a 5 x 10 HF coil to choose from. I could take all 3 coils but dont want the added weight and want to hunt as quickly as possible as our weather conditions are hit and miss here right now. With this supplied info, which coil would offer the best bang for the buck at this location? Thanx....

Since you seem to be ruling out silver coins as a possibility, I would use a HF - DD coil, in hopes of finding some jewelry. 1 - 18K necklace is worth a whole pocketful of clad coins, plus if you want to go for the coins, the coil is more than able to locate coils deeper than you will find at a 20 year old site. Just my opinion...............

If you want to hunt quickly then the 5x10HF gets the nod. Lightweight, can cover a lot of ground, a bit less prone to Bottle Cap IDing as a coin than the 10.5.

But you have your work cut out for you with the trash, especially if there are steel clad Canadian coins. If you're on a tear to beat the weather over what sounds like a large site, I would forget about iffy signals, only dig solid signals, recover quickly, move on. If you can go back next year, then cover the whole place with each coil taking solid signals first, then on other hunts move onto iffy signals. Last but not least, get the the 6 inch HF DD go back and you will probably recover 1/3 again of your coin total at that point.

If it was me and with winter almost here I would use the 5 x 10 coil for more ground coverage and I would set up one of the pattern modes to disc out everything below a penny and cherry pick the place. I would only dig quarters, loonies and Toonies and a few dime's. Forget the penny's nickels and gold jewelry this fall. If you can, go after them next spring when you have more time.

I will use the favoured hf 5 x 10 coil then. I have not used this coil yet but have used dd coil before on my excal. It does make good sense to cherry pick this year as it is late and close to snow season. Thanx for the advice, you're an awesome group!!!
