What Would You Give

What would you give to have been given "carte blanche" permission to detect and pan on a private historic site born in the gold rush days where there were several fandangos, a meat market, jewelry store, grocery store, bocce ball hall and several other buildings, along with a rich history of murders, hangings muggings and so forth. To have made a good friend of the great-grandson of the original grocery store owner that lives on site and has opened his home to me and brought out old discolored photos of the site as it was during that time, and has shown me artifacts such as old guns he has found and has told to me to keep whatever I find and has taken the trouble to describe the history and to tell me where to detect. Is this a dream come true? I'm afraid I'm gonna wake up at any moment!

hello licn2chill, such offers are rare... and rewarding. and there's a lot of family provenance on that piece of ground too. i would certainly hit it hard, there's no telling what you'll come up with. good luck, and hh,

Man am I having fun. Nothing found of any real value yet, but lots of artifacts from the 1800's, ax heads, old picks, square nails, and lots of other stuff, but I'm just getting started and learning my way around. I'll post any real good stuff!

hey man, if yer finding stuff like old iron axeheads and the like, then the good stuff is just around the corner! pound it hard and holler for more! and don't fergit to post yer finds! hh,

Thanks for the encouragement Grey Ghost!, I'm hard at it, found several sites where there had been cabins, one burned down due to diptheria (I guess that's how you spell it) when the family came down with it at the turn of the century. Old mining operations and sites along the dry creek where gold mining artifacts are left all along the banks and barn sites. Can't wait to find anything of real value, the property owner is helping me all he can by telling me where to look and is sincerely disappointed when I check back in with him after telling him what I found. At one point, he felt so bad, he took me over to his fireplace and "GAVE" me an old artifact. What a great guy! Amazingly, there's a ton of trash stuff out there too due to woodcutting activity and target shooting. Anyway, I'll post any great finds!
