What would YOU do over?

Okay, this certainly isn't new. You've been at this :detecting: for a while and you've seen the pitfalls of ALL the detectors.

Which detector would YOU start with now? You know the learning curve involved with each of the units and their capabilities, keep it at or under $1000.00.

Currently no chance to detect ANYTHING in Minnesota except four feet of frost on land and 20 inches of ice on the water...

In my 33 years of detecting here in ND and MN I seen some good detectors and some bad ones. Out of all of them if I did a lot of coin hunting and wanted a good ID with turn on a go detector so I could get more and less trash the Minelab Sovereign with a good 180 meter like the Sun Ray DTIs. If I was new and wanted a target ID detector the White MXT I found was a lot of fun with not much of a learning curve. If target ID was not important and plan on doing some relic hunting I would pick the Troy X5 Shadow or even the Tesoro Tejon is good. If you wanted a good non metered detector that you don't need to ground balance I find the Tesoro Cibola really does well. Now these are all under $1000, but if you want the best of the best, but takes time to understand it the Minelab Explorer does excellent as you will see on the forums with the great finds. The Quattro also is a good detector and it too has a learning curve that you have to have Patience and time to use and understand it.
