What will a 5" DD coil do for my F5?

Will a 5" DD coil improve my odds of finding deeper targets in trashy areas? When would I switch back to the 10" coil that the machine came with? I found a lot of clad coins last night in a local park including two 1965 Quarters. This leads me to believe that it has not been hunted heavily and there should be some silver coins. There are lots of pop top tabs in this park.

Where is the best place to purchase one?

Thanks

JKabat I've been using the 5" DD on my F70 and it won't go deeper then the stock coil (seems to max out at 6", but considering the coil is only 5" that's good IMHO), but it'll help unmask targets next to trash & iron that the stock concentric coil will miss. I used it at an older park in an area that's been pounded by Explorers and F75s, and hit a spot that had a gold plate over steel Victorian heart locket that gave an iron grunt, but right next to it was a 1910 Barber dime that sounded off pretty well. With a larger coil, the detector would only sound off on the iron, and you'd miss the coin (I had just hit the same spot with the stock coil, and missed it). I also found an 1841 seated half dime with it, but it wasn't due to masking, but it did help me get under the brush easier then the larger coils.

As for the best place to purchase, several of the findmall sponsors such as Richard @ Backwoods can get you a good deal on the coil.

use my smaller coil as said in trashy areas but will also allow ya to get closer to metal objects like poles ,fence and also inbetween trees and other tight places-so to answer your question use the smaller one when the larger one won't work or fit-good luck

I honestly expected much less "heat" than I've been getting with the little coil! The fact that it's a DD...and that it's small will let you sneak-a-peek between the trash items and see the goodies. It feels like a tight, razor edge of detection...and I've dug coins deeper than expected with it (6 to 8 inches). It's an awesome accessory coil. I have areas with red clay and it seems to handle it great since it sees much less ground than the big coils.

But at the very least I expect it to work as well as Brian and Mark said it does. Hopefully in the next few days I can give a report.

I have been using the 5 inch for two months now and can say separation is very good. The stock coil separates very good when you have the target over the sweet spot of the coil. My 5 inch acts alot like the 11 inch that Mike H tested and did a wonderful post on earlier. GB is a little different and you can not run it quite as hot as the stock. You loose some depth but you gain a very narrow detection field as Marc posted above and pinpointing is dead on. It is expensive but I am glad I bought it. I don't know if I will get the 11 inch Inch or not, the stock coil is so smooth.

Here are a couple of photos of my finds from two trips to a rural park/ballfield. This park is loaded with pull tabs. After switching to my new 5inch DD coil I was able to pull out a silver Rosie from an area that I previously hunted.
This park was established in the 1930's. Can't figure out where all the wheaties are? Several of the clad coins are from the mid to late 60's so there should be some more silver.

It may not find deeper targets but it may find some of the targets masked by trash that have been missed. You don't always have to have great depth most targets in Calif are 3-6 inches down. I know there are a lot of coins that have sunk below that range and they are tough to find in trash...
