What were you guys using before you got the new Whites V models??

bigtim1973

Well-known member
Was wondering what you guys were swinging when you did the upgrade to the new Whites V series units and how do you like it compared to the model you moved up from???

Are you happy with the upgrade or do you feel it was not much of a difference in perfomance but just more options???

Have you noticed a difference in your good finds compared to trash targets from the one you moved up from??

Thanks in advanced, Tim

I personally came up from the DFX. I am not a specialty kind of a hunter. I generally hunt schools and parks. This is my second year with the V3i and I still don't claim to know it all. I do know the machine has all the capabilities to do what I want it to do with my style of hunting. The features and benefits of the V3i are numerous, different for each style of hunting, ground conditions and individual preference. This machine is like no other, it can't be compared. I did not find any gold jewelry with the DFX, As soon as I got the V3i, I started to find gold jewelry. Was it the machine, the adjustments, coil combination, my technique? It doesn't matter. I do know as soon as I started to take the advice of people like Magic, things started to happen. The main thing was the results. My results increased tremendously for me, certainly brings up the confidence level and lowers the frustration level. I can't blame this machine for any bad results I get. The V3i is a challenge, but then again I'm here to become a better detectorist. Happy hunting all.

Primarily White's detectors for me. I have had tried other brands but not for long, have always come back to White's. My progression over the past three years has been Classic ID, MXT, XLT, to the Vx3. Throw a couple Tesoro's, a Minelab, and a couple CZ's in there, albeit briefly. ( I'm not even counting the Ace 150 I started with...) I'm very happy with the Spectra series. My finds have went up, and my trash finds have decreased dramatically. If I am strictly coin hunting, I will dig very little trash, unless it's super deep or I get curious on an iffy target. When hunting, I'm pretty confident as to it being a coin before even cutting a plug. A couple of old tokens I've dug have thrown me off, but I was hoping for an old copper, or an older nickel, hasn't happened yet.... When relic or ring hunting you will get trash, but that's expected.

I got back into the hobby a few years back with a Garrett GTI 2500 I found used at a price to low to say no. I had a great time my first 9 months with that detector. The imaging concept behind that detector was very informative and in my experience quite accurate. My background is in technology (computers and networks) so I guess it was the right detector for me at the right time. I also found a great deal on a used Whites XLT about 6 months into my rediscovery of detecting, so I used both for a while. The XLT was very good, but I did not have the same results with it that I had with the GTI. That was no doubt due to my lack of experience with it as well as my longer term with the GTI. I also picked up a Garrett Ace 250 for my wife that she really likes, but I really want to tell you about Whites now.

Eventually my renewed interest in the hobby exceeded the ability of the GTI and the XLT so I started to research the options in order to take the next step so to speak. After all was said and done I opted to buy a used V3 updated to the "i" option. I like to call it a V3+i. That was a marriage made in heaven and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the detector, and even more about Whites but I'll save that for the next paragraph. This detector changed the paradigm for me. The V (as I call it) has improved my finds, reduced the trash I dig which makes my knees very happy, it is a deep detector and it has made good finds in areas I thought I had "hunted out" with my other machines. The target seperation and recovery time is outstanding. And rarely does it make a false prediction of what is under the coil if I set it up properly for the conditions. The funny thing is you can take it out of the box so to speak and immediately get positive results with the stock programs. And as your knowledge and ability improve it will continue to grow along with you. It just keeps giving in my experience. But then there is Whites........

Most impressive thing after how good the V3i is as a detector would be how well Whites has treated me as the SECOND owner of this great machine. I have had first class service and treatment from Whites right from the start and it continues to this day. They are an outstanding example of an American company doing things the right way in good and bad times. They don't depend on hype and flag waving to sell a "lesser" product than the offshore competition. They build a BETTER detector than their competition and then embrace the owner with first class service and support. I sincerely believe Whites would be an excellent case study on how to bring back business to American companies via real innovation and service. As opposed to the trickery, half truths, sub-par service, and third rate support the American auto industry (for example) resorts to every day. Whites has it figured out, and I truly love them for it. I will admit the new CTX has caught my eye because the inner geek in me would love to try it. But in the end they are not Whites, and that is the real difference for me. I doubt I will ever stop using Whites. My prayer is they never sell the company to anyone else. And in that event I would hope the new owner does not make the mistake of losing sight of what is really important. That would be a great product and a happy customer in no particular order.

Sorry about giving you 25 cents when you asked for 2, but you can no doubt tell I'm very happy with Whites and they have EARNED my loyalty. I can't say the same about most of my other purchases in my 51 years on this rock, thus I think they deserve the strong plug!

went from the xlt to the vx3. the quality of finds with the vx3 were a lot better and at greater depth.

It is good to see the fantastic input from everyone on the Whites V series. I been looking into it for a little while now and I may take the plunge and pick one up. I really like the features it seems to have and although it is a big step up as far as features go from what I am used to on my MXT, I believe it would be an almost pristime machine to pick out the goodies with in those old home and trashy sites. I like the feature it shows on the screen on how all the feuquency bars line up on a good target. I am still partial to my MXT and will probably always keep it(I think I will anyway) but all in all I believe I will take the plunge here in a few weeks. I hope others chime in here and tell me some more input on the switch to the V series. I am surprised to see not many input from former minelab users. I guess most are partial to the name brand they like the best. I have used all the major name brands and have always come back to Whites for a couple of reasons. I like the build quility, how well balanced they are and the battery life have always been good on my MXT. I saw in the specs on the Whites V series that battery life is about 10 hours but I already have one of those 2200 mah lipo rechargable battery packs that will be able to get several more hours out of a days search. Others please chime in. HH, Tim

you can check my Signature and see I have used quit a few detectors I started in 1959 with a White's conquistador and have quit a lot of various machines plus three DFX's, a GMT, and a Vision the for runner to the V3i .
I found the service was outstanding at Whites .They take good care of there customers 1st rate Garrett is also good to deal with but I don't think there detectors are quite as good I all so liked my Xterra 705 it was a good coin finder I had a 70 too it was good also But there prices on accessories was a bit high
Well that my thought on the subject

Back in the 80's I had a White's but cannot remember the model. My wife bouht me a Prizm IV about 5 years ago and when my hunting buddy upgraded I was able to gt the V3i.

The V3i Is the prima donna and will be my next - but started using the prizm 6t - then mxt pro and occassionally the dfx - I always tell my customers to buy something they will grow into and not out of - happy hunting !!

My V3i is not here yet (it is in the mail on its way) but have used a red coinmaster, dfx, coinmaster classic 1, and currently using the XLT.
