What Water Detector Do you Guys Recomend?

Aaron

Well-known member
Guys,
I want to get a under water detector, I will use it primarily for wading, I live hear in Michigan, so I will only be going to the ocean maybe once a year I love going in the lakes. I currently use a GT Sov., so I have been thinking about a Exacaliber, since it is the same machine, but maybe that is a bit overkill, especially since I wont be going much more than 10 feet. I definately want something light weight for traveling. What do you guys think of the Tiger Shark? Thanks, Aaron

As a former Sovereign Elite user, when I decided I wanted a water machine I went with the Excalibur. I haven't been sorry...it's a great machine and I found hundreds of dollars and lots of gold with it this past summer hunting the beach here. As for being overkill, I don't think so. I hunt the wet sand and shallow water myself and have never been more than chest deep with it, but that may change this coming summer. It's more about the way it hunts to me than whether or not I will dive with it. I can't speak for the Tiger Shark.

I was disappointed with it's performance in the salt water. The important settings are located inside the housing and are a pain to get set correctly. As for fresh water it is very good on small gold. Just my 2 cents worth.

howdy

i use an cxcaliber for water hunting n have done pretty well with it. i like the fact that it nulls out the junk n i don't have to dig all that stuff.

I'll go with the Minelab guys. I've been using an Explorer II on the beach and it's the steadiest machine I've ever used on a saltwater beach. So, with that in mind, and having considered a PI unit but deciding I don't want to dig trash all day, I just ordered an Excalibur. I have a Fisher CZ-20 and it's good but I just love the smoothness of the Minelab. BTW, my Explorer II paid for all of my machines and a whole lot more the first year that I had it. Best of luck.
