I have two that stick out in my mind the first is when i was detecting in high winds and i heard a crack and a big limb of a tree almost took me out. the second is when a great dane came at me full bore and i just about crapped my pants because i thought it was a bear.

2 years ago on vacation at virginia beach hunting at sunrise on a cool summer monday morning...beach was exceptional trashy that morn from weekend crowds leaving broken beach chairs ,boogie boards, coolers etc etc....im always a little on my guard no matter where i am...just prior to sunrise near one of the lifegaurd chairs and pile of garbage i noticed what i thought was a mans head ..well thats the only part i could see because he was wrapped in a brown blanket, had sunglasses on and a brown hat so there really was no contrast and with the dim early morning lighting i really wasnt sure what i was seeing....any way about 10 minutes later i hear sirens and there getting closer to where i am...i see the beach garbage truck and police where i had thought i saw what i thought was a man...meanwhile my wife knew i was right in that vacinity 5 minutes earlier and with so few people on the beach she was concerned for my well being...i saw my wife in the distance walking past the scene..by the time she caught up to me she was white as a ghost..she said they are doing cpr on a guy up there and i dont look good.....the garbage truck had accidently drove over the guy and he died...it was a homeless man trying to keep warm.... worse part is it wasnt until hours or days later that i realised i had heard the whole thing while listening to my headphones for signals..... kinda wierd how details can come back to you long after the event.... the other scariest thing was the time i was detecting in a driedup swimming hole and didnt realize i was about to step on a large black snake...it took everything i had to regain my balance as my foot was already on its way down when i realized what it was....after i regained my composer i told some nearby teenage girls to stay away from that area because of the snake.....they didnt listen to me and promptly went over there and killed it......

I saw my life flash before my eyes while a giant pit bull was trying to get away from its owner to get a piece of me. The dog was literally dragging its owner across the ground trying to get to me and my dog. He finally got some control over the dog and I disappeared as fast as possible with my dog and detector.

I was detecting way back in the woods just kind of day dreaming. I was wearing shorts and the headphones I was using at the time didn't allow you to hear outside noises. Suddenly I felt something warm and wet on the back of my leg. I must have jumped ten feet in the air. Turned out it was a friendly dog. Since then I prefer headphones that I can still hear outside noises with. These Sony Studio Phones ($20 at Walmart) have great audio and are about halfway between full sized and walkman sized headphones, so I can still hear things around me. They look and feel like normal sized headphones but are just about half the size in diameter. Very comfortable too.
