oh boy, youv've really started a good one this time treasurefiend! no telling what the answers will be on this one. i think wev'e all found sheet iron and pits of aluminum cans at 2 ft. plus. my personal best was a cw bullet at 16" with my nautilus. on the coin side, a dateless large cent around 13" deep with my cibola. take note though, that good ground made these finds possible. semper fi, and hh,

A nice big ole piece of pipe. I was below my elbows digging it. I knew it was junk but I wanted it outta the ground, X-Terra 70, Beale.

Right on there Gray Ghost. I've found Indians that my machine could barely read right on top of the ground, in a trap rock area and found large cents at 13 - 14" in fine, quiet soil. Large, junk targets? The sky's the limit on those. I usually quit after about 15":ranting: I know, I'll never find that treasure chest that's at 16". HH

This is gonna be a good thread . I dont really know how far I dug,but I
could have almost fit in the hole myself . The signal was so strong
and I kept telling myself it could be something great,Not,It was an old transfer case
Good thing I dont mind digging , cause Ive dug some deep ones, dug an old metal shelf
thinking ,Lid to a box . Good thing I have a vivid imagination , Or Not
Oh, and I was using a Whites Prizm II.

Well, my post isn't about depth so much, but one time I had a strong signal behind an old abandoned house. I dug a bit and uncovered a large, flat stone. The signal was very solid under the stone so I kept digging it out as I'd read that often treasure is hidden under a stone and/or old this or that as camouflage. Well, when I finally got to where I could lift the stone, all I found was an old ring gear from a car differential. Not much of a treasure, but did show that things do get deliberately buried under stones or whatever.

Forgot to mention the detector. Tesoro Silver Sabre Umax. I believe Tabdog has one in his arsenal.

used for locating survey markers and utilities.

I am a retired surveyor. I have heard of people locating large
objects with these locaters up to 10'.

I am talking about large objects, weighing from hundreds to
thousands of pounds.

I have recovered several large objects with VLF detectors
that were pretty deep. I don't keep track too much, but:

I found a large clevis at a couple of feet deep with an
Eldorado using a 12"X10" concentric coil. That sticks
in my mind because it didn't happen very long ago.

HH,

'83 quarter at about 14" with my F2, at a local softball park, near first base. Glad I did, 'cause I almost gave up digging.

All this begs the question - just how deep do you WANT to dig? I decided some time ago that I don't necessarily want or need the deepest detector on the market. In fact, quick, sharp target response, quick retune, light weight, comfortable to handle and decent discrimination all come ahead of depth for me. Of course I DO want resonable depth.

Found a 1788 pineapple coin on edge at 12" ( copper and a little bigger then a large cent) Used a explorer II on this find. I hunt a local park and have found state quarters's at six " inches already. The park goes back to 1906 so the goodies are how deep? To reach them I have to go very slow and also use the renamed DFX 300.

an old civil war pocketwatch about 2 feet with White's MXT - it was after the rain in the mud and water and it took me 3 days of scooping out water with a cup and digging just to have the water run back in the hole - of course it was just the round outside most of the insides were gone :ranting:
