What was that coin worth in the 1800's?

I'm sure we have all wondered what it meant to someone long ago who lost the coin we just found. Was it a big deal? What could they have bought with this coin? I know I have. You wonder if that dime, quarter or half dollar caused problems for that family or individual when it was lost. Well, here's a link to an inflation calculator that will tell you what the value of that coin in todays terms was. It is pretty fun to play around with. You may also remember what your Dad or Granddad paid for a new truck, house or gun. You can find out what that amount means in todays dollars. I thought it was cool and wanted to pass it along.

Thanks for the link! This is fun to play around with.

It makes takes the sting out of buying old Morgan dollars. For instance, one dollar in 1889 is worth 23.57 in 2009. The only difference is that you would get an uncirculated coin then!
