What to wear in cold water

Hi all,
I am looking for what you would wear in the cold water up to your neck at the beach. My budget for now is about 250.00. My hunts would be the beaches all over Brooklyn, Long Island, New Jersey, and Upstate New York lakes.

I have neoprene waders for now that are very warm but I am thinking about getting a wet/ dry suit to get out a little further. What do you use?

I am also interested in knowing what you wear on your hands and feet if you use a wet/ dry suit.

Thanks in advance for your help.
HH Glenn

Check some of the local dive shops or Boaters world, etc.. I pick up a pair of 3ml full length suits on closeout for $40 and dive boots and gloves for another $60.
But for your area, I would say a 5-7ml suit and good quality boots.

I use Simms gortex waders for all the seasons except winter... winter I use the neoprene waders, I use these gloves and add a couple hot hand hand warmers for extra protection from the cold.. I'm not far from you so our winters are the same... Connecticut.

Thanks for the tips, I think I found what I need it's a Mares 5/4/3mm Trilastic Superstretch Jumpsuit. It's a full size wetsuit for 109.00. Supposed to be made for being able to move around freely. I will just need something for my feet and hands, oh and a big treasure chest for all the goodies I am going to find. Thanks again HH, Glenn

I would have to agree on the 7-5mm wetsuit. You could go even thicker if needed, although that will mean carrying even more extra weight. If your planning on going out to neck deep, do you own a good quality mask and snorkel? I have purchased an Ultra dry snorkel through Oceanic. They work fantastic at keeping the water out and have an inbuilt purge button. The dry suits you have to learn to drive, and if you go that way, I would recommend a scuba course, they will teach you how to operate them efficently. A good rugged thick dive boot will keep your feet functioning and a good pair of dive gloves, I prefer the gloves with Kevlar palms and back of the fingers. They will take a lot of punishment and you feel confident in grabbing targets in zero visibility. Hope this helps. HH God bless, Nugget.:)

I ordered the Mares 5/4/3mm trilastic, I was thinking of getting a thicker mil suit but the closeout price 109.90+ free shipping and the trilastic stretch for mobility is why I went with this suit. I think a thicker suit would have been too bulky to start out with. Can't wait to get it. Still looking for the boots and gloves though, I am looking at a good pair of 7mm boots, so many to choose from, same with the gloves. Thanks again for the tips and advice.
