What to put on "O" Ring for coil and headphones?

Vaseline will melt the o ring.
Like the man said use silicon grease.
 
Silicone grease is also available at autoparts stores. It is used for Air Conditioning O rings and also often used in spark Plug boots and between the distributor and the control module on automobiles so equipped.
 
You can pick it up at Lowes in the plumbing dept...
