I know we have to clean the coins, but what about the ones damage, i.e. zinc pennies, and really black nickels, etc? also, somene said they bought gold with their yearly finds. where can the gold be bought? thanks

but the bank has said no more filthy lucre. Gold can be bopught at a coin store, ebay and garage sales.

Wish I could find something like that in the ground!

I tumble my dimes/quarters together, with a little phosphoric acid for about an hour and they come out looking great. I'll tumble pennies/nickels together (no acid) for a little longer and they meter at the bank just fine.

Sometimes, I'll deposit the tumbled clad into checking and turn around and buy silver coins off e-bay with the funds. If I were as patient (and successful) as John E. I'd save for some gold like he does. Tumbled clad helped pay for my last metal detector.

Sometimes I'll take the kids to the arcade and give them all the quarters to play games with.

Good Luck!

If you add any kind of acid (vinegar etc.) it eats up the zinc, which outgases and will turn your tumbler barrel into a grenade!

I just use dish soap for the pennies.

Ain't that the truth!! I use the Majic Powder and it really does a good job on the coins, but just have a few zincs in with your coppers and it will pop the top right off the tumbler if you don't relieve the pressure every 30 mins. or so. I hate Dirty Rotten Zinkers!! I'm sure whoevers idea it was to make pennies out of zinc and the person who thought pulltabs were a good idea are dead by now, and if they are they should be dug up and shot and if they aren't, they should be run out of the country and then shot!! Just kidding, but at least a little torture should be in order!!

I save the coins up and buy Canada Savings Bonds:yikes:. Something about making money from money I find and the government paying me interest is rather pleasing. I'm tired of the government sucking my wallet dry....this way I get pay back !:yo:
Eventually I will buy something nice with the money....not sure what:shrug:...I just like finding stuff:thumbup:.
