The beaches are constantly shifting by the force and direction of waves. There are coves here that during the summer the sand will extend outward to the point. In winter those same places will be 25 feet deep. I know of one beach where a sandy summer beach will be 40 feet deep at the end of winter. Hunting fresh sand is a silent and seldom productive effort. I only do that if someone has asked my assistance in locating something they recently lost. When the sand is gone then it is easy pickens. I remember one day a few years back when I passed by a familiar beach. The beach did not exist except for a rocky shoreline. I stopped and headed for the water. Once in I just laid down the metal detector and began picking up the eyeball stuff. Came home with well over a $100 in clad plus 9 fine gold rings. Most by eyeball. Know your beaches. It is difficult even for the expert to hunt new territory.
