What to do to help a new-B!

gottit

New member
After a long period of time I have decided to take on a new( teaching can-b difficult) "Padawan" (Star Wars mine u) ! This yonug-ling (has some potential) has the will (for the moment or should I say /I see the gold syndrome) but lacks the "real get down and dig-it now" as most of us have ! My Wife took up a Ace 250 and does quite well! She loves and wants that gold!!!! Yet I'm in a quiery as to where to start with this one! Beep and Dig or Listen/Look and Dig! For Me it's "beep and dig"! What as a group do we do in helping a young-ling ( he does not own a detector yet) . Tech is not always best and Analog is not for all!!
Digger's one and all help another "Obi-wan" (want-a-b) teach this one ( he look's like and smell's like a tech-ie) yet it not my way! What suggest Ye !!
Thx's

I read that twice,, huh?? Are you asking a question? Hold on I think I got it...............nope:shrug:

Yep I got it. Wifey likes the gold:clapping: We all do:thumbup: As far as digging,at first while fresh, dig everything.Listen for the beep ,look at the ID and depth meter, pinpoint , and dig.
So it goes like this: Listen,listen(2 passes), look,(ID) look (Depth), look listen, look listen:rofl: (Until you have a pinpoint) and then Dig It.

Did that help? (havin a little fun wt it) :starwars:

... there are no shortcuts. Good equipment helps, so dont settle for second rate or knock-off crap.
Good technique matters and should be taught from the outset.
But nothing compares with recovering items to know what your detetor is telling you. That is how they build confidence and learn if this really can hold their interest.

Well it is like this !!! The Guy is smart but is a little hard headed !!My wife (My best huntin partner) is right on(she is a hard worker and researcher) !!!She puts the time in!!!! This guy on the other hand want's help and needs help BUT!!! !!WHERE do I start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has never touched a metal detector !~ com -on ya'll help me /this guy wants to digg /but has not got a clue/.it's easy /any body can do it is his thought!!! gottit well i don't know! HELP ME TEACH THIS GUY!!!!!

Well its starting to make more sense.Didnt really understand a dam thing in your first post.Becoming clearer.

What detector is he using? Where you hunting?

You may Think that this may not be important! But I do ! I asked a ? This may be hard for you to understand/ but the world around you laughes at how simple it's answer could be and is! The group of Men and Women that take part in our great and wonderful search for history and (yes) treasure are out to help each other (at least that is the way I came up and learned the "art" of detecting). Again I ask for suggestions for training a total new-b. Not a smart mouth! Thank's anyway for your quick and useless response!! Now thanks to those that may help ME (US) ed-u-cate this young "Padawan" !! "We are only as good as the future we teach" !! gottit !! Now let the education begin!! thanks again!!!!!!!!

Hey ,,,hold on a MINUTE.. I was having a little fun with that jibberish you put up for the first post of this thread. It made little to NO sense. And you are saying now ,,, you asked a simple question???

Now, after several posts,,,what you are asking is making more sense. And If you are able to put into(understandable) words from here on out. Someone out there might be able to help you.

I appologize if it seemed "smart mouth" to you. Good Luck

I found it in my best interest to post before I drink, though I have been known to get those confused... JJ

From what I gather I don't think your situation is that tough to figure out. If you have an extra machine for him to use or have time to take him out while he uses your machine, that will be enough to get him hooked. Otherwise there is a nice selection of quality starter detectors available at low prices for those that aren't sure if the hobby is for them. You really don't need to teach this guy Detecting A to Z. Just a brief general overview of some settings like discrimination and sensitivity, how to pinpoint and how to dig a plug. Then offer a few desired practice targets for him to get familiar with. Once he has some general basics down, most of what he will learn will come with experience. Don't worry that his ethics don't exactly match yours before he has even started detecting. Most people start detecting because of an uneducated curiosity that evolves into obsession through experience. As long as he continues to show interest, I have no doubt he will be successful. JJ

I'm not sure whether you said you knew how to detect...You did say however, that you want to teach this guy. Is that right? I'm asking this so I can pitch my reply to the right level.

- - When you write, try to hold the sentences together like you learned in school. I'd suggest you write like you were talking to a police man or your boss... keep it simple and to the point. Use punctuation.
I've read over this, too, and I see the frustration others have with it.
You gotta own up that it sounds like something from a kids' Star Wars fan page. Or something off myspace. It really is confusing.

But fear not, detecting is easy. Turn it on, swing it in the right places and recover -neatly - what your instrument finds.
There is a lot to know in detecting, like anything else. But you don't have to "teach" more than this in the beginning.

Well It seems that my ? was not stght forward enough and my come back was out of order! For this I'm sorry! Thxs for your imput ! gottit

The best thing? We can all learn from this. It can urge us all to make a point and be clear in our own posts.
We have you to thank for that.

Did you get an answer about what you need to teach a New-B?

Gotta agree with Jabbo.

Listen to the wife. Learn from the wife. Let the boy learn from your wife. She is very patient and tolerant.
