What to buy

Hi All --

I thought I would reach out for advice.

I currently have a Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker (&100-$120 brand new) which I have had for a couple of years (this is my first machine). I am thinking of upgrading over the winter. I was wondering what would be a good machine that is not going to cost me a ton of money. I honestly don't need all of the bells and whistles that are available. I just want an upgrade from what I currently have. I actually like my Fast Tracker. But now that the kids are getting a little older, I find myself out MDing more often and would like something a little bit better.

Any advice would be great.

By the way, I usually hunt schools, parks, boat landings. Nothing real exotic.

Hi Mitto, You can upgrade to a Pioneer 505(same as the Sharpshooter) or a Discovery 3300 and I think you'd be happy with either of them. You can check Ebay and I think you can find either of them for under $200 and they are good machines.

What does the jury say about the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300?

I have read some good things aboutit, but I wanted somemore input

I own one and love it!! It is a very underrated machine if you ask me. I have found enough with it to pay for the machine. The coils are cheap, so you can afford various sizes. The only down side I can tell you about, is the battery life. If you don't use headphones it will eat batteries. I use the rechargeable batteries and get at least 10 to 15 hours between charges. Sure cuts down the cost. I use mine in the dirt and the dry sand at the beach. You can swing it all day without getting tired and even though it has VID, at night you can hunt using only the tones to identify the targets. Good luck if you get one. I don't think you can get a better detector for the price. Especially if you buy one used. That's how I got mine and have been satisfied ever since. You can check some of my old posts to see how I have done with it.

How about a Land Star.....true auto tacking not fixed... http://www.detecting.com/products/product.cmdl?c=378c73459a2911d4

OR try a Tesoro Silver Umax or Minelab X-Terra 70.

The Land Star is NOT auto tracking...It is factory preset in all but the All-Metal mode, where it can be manually adjusted...

I have a nice Minelab Xterra 30, has auto ground balance, easy to use. Fairly deep machine. at 7.khz. It's an 8.5/10 still have the original box and manual. $250 shipped to your door. You can read about Minelab at their site or Kellyco. HH

I have a Land Star up for grabs, but it needs to go back to the Factory to be re-tuned...other than that, it is in very good condition...It will come with both the 8" and the 4" coil, and I am willing to let it go for $180.00 shipped...
