OK heres my question, i own a excal 2 and very much like the machine, i mostly hunt beaches here in Fla along with the surrounding areas, now since most of Fla is sandy, why would i need another machine??or for a good back up machine what would be a good machine, money isn't an option..i do also have a home in north Carolina and do hunt up there too. let me know thoughts and why id want that machine....:detecting::shrug:

I can't imagine going to the beach with out my Pi md............. I know when the day is done I didn't miss anything I walked over. If it could be heard you hear it, it is up to you if you dig it. W all know PI md's dig deeper than most. I know what people say you dig yourself to death but you got to admit you don't get bord because there is not a slow day :smoke:
This is my opinion

I have tried the PI route and YES they do hunt deeper, but at the end of the day, I have covered more groud with the Excal, because iron is not really a factor I have to deal with enroute to the prize. If you bought the 10" Excal, then get the 8" and vise versa. The Excal will break, as all the others do as well. Fact is, I have broken EVERY brand of submersible I've ever owned, if you hunt long enough, it is going to happen. The question is, will you have a backup Excal, when it breaks in peak season? You will be wishing you did, when it takes over a month to get your equipment back.

All machines break at one time or another. A second Excal is good, you may want to get a 12" coil on it to cover more ground and Grey Ghost headphones to hear that tiny whisper of gold. A PI is nice if you like sore arms.....it all depends on where you hunt..........just keep in mind that you will need a good machine in prime season when that primary machine breaks down.

OK sounds like good advise, my questions are; who's 12" coil would you use?? and this pi MD who's is it ??I'm still learning all about
this hobby and I'm full of questions..and the grey ghost headsets are they water proof?? can they handle being knocked over by the serf and getting submerged?:detecting::minelab:

You know what is really funny how PI's get a bad rap... well.. I used to own an Excal and I gave up on it because it wasn't deep enough for my liking and you had to swing it really slowly... don't buy into the hype that a PI only finds iron trash... I only use a PI these days and have no wants to use any VLF water or wet sand hunting... I'm not going to miss that deep gold that the Excal will not see... I know my PI. I know when I'm over iron and bottle caps and even bobbiepins so forget the trash talk concerning PI's... you want deep gold.. get a PI and save some money....

SunRay makes a terrific 12" coil that will go as deep as any PI. But if you want a PI then go with a Detector Pro or White's. Detector Pro being very lightweight. But you will need to spend a lot of time with a PI to get to know it and the slight differences in the sounds.........and get sore arms while your at it.

Bobbie... I have hunted behind Excal users and found what they missed because they just couldn't get the depth my detector can... you see my posts... you show me all the iron I'm finding? I took the time to learn my detector... for around $700 you can have a Dual Field PI if you shop around... can you get a new Excal for that? I don't think so....... I'm 53, I average over 50 gold rings a year hunting in the mud and rocks... my arms aren't sore...

To each there own :)

Ok If money is not a problem I'd buy another excal ll and 2 PI's, I have 2 PI.s and an excal ll, and I will get another exca ll. If you do alot of beach hunting you will need a back up, well maybe not but if your machine breaks at the beach you'll want a backup. I Like different coil sizes also In shallow water I like the 11' coil and in deeper water I like the 8' and 6' coil. Just my preferance. I seem to find more gold with the PI's, the excal ll is a good machine. hh willia

Well since money is no problem to you, I wouold just LOVE to have an Excal. I've been wanting one for so long but can't afford it. Should I send you my name and address now?

Not everyone is tough like you are, nor are they able to get out as frequently as you do. So we have to have the machine that will cover as much ground and go as deep as it can in a short period of time. Time wasted is gold not found.

The voice of inexperience. I have a Minelab and I have the 12" SunRay coil and a 14" Penetrator and they still don't come anywhere near my P.I.'s except the cheapest low power one.

The phrase "sore arms" is the key and the recommendation of "lightweight" machines. Go for a high power one and it will be hip or chest mount so there's almost no weight in the hand.

When you arrive at a beach you don't know if your the first, second or tenth to work it that day. If you have a better P.I. then it doesn't matter you will still be making good finds.

That might be true Bobbie but please do not dismiss the PI... its deeper and one who learns how to use it and use it correctly will find deeper gold than a VLF... The PI may not be for you like the Excalibur is not for me... :) Simple as that :)

As to frequently... I don't think so... I hunt minus tides which come 1 time a month and I take advantage of them... I don't hunt frequently and yet I score a decent amount of gold and its my belief because of my deeper detector... and I read beaches pretty well and have learned a lot from certain water hunters who for the most part all use PI's :)

Each type of MD has it's advantages. I will get an Excal to go with my Infinium whenever I lay some more $$ in my wallet. Each can come in handy depending on the environment u want to cover.

Well I own the SE and the Excal. I use them both. I like using the SE in all areas and even in the sand. When I get in the water I use the excal. Works for me... I am in Florida also. When I go to the Philippines I am taking them both.

I have an SE too but I get skiddish when it gets near the water. :buds:

I have taken mine in a foot of water, just remember not to set it down.....
