Any idea as to what the strange looking piece of tubing may have been used for?

If it hadn't been for the nicely belled end with its neatly rolled lip I would just have just passed it off as a discarded piece of 1/8

Oil tube?
I have seen something similar on old machines. The operator could oil the machinery while it was running without getting too close to the moving parts.

I do believe your on to it Bill. Sure makes sense when I think about it. Quite possibly pre-dates the drip oilers I'm somewhat familiar with.

Thanks and HH
