What small coil to buy for searching parking strips and sidewalk repairs sites:help:

I am posting this question for a friend and for my own edification because I plan to own one of the explorers sometime this year.

What coil do you explorer users feel works best when working iron infested sidewalk repairs and junk laden parking strips?
I presently use a White's XLT and have it fitted with the 3" by 5" DD Shooter coil which is an elliptical style.
While this coil is very small and does not get a great deal of depth, it is awesome with target separation and some see through.

My thinking is that something in this size range and DD and elliptical as well would be killer for working the aforementioned types of sites.
What brand seems to work best?
What configuration seems to work best?
What sizing seems to work best?
Is there any machine adjustments needed to coax the best performance from a small coil?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I as well as a number of fellow E-Trac / Explorer hunters I go out with have tried the various options out there and the new 6x8 SEF or the 6" Excelerator (even the 5" which was replaced by the 6") perform better in the areas we use them . . . . . . in many of my hunts lately, I have kept the smaller coil on the detector and easily hit 6"-7" coins amongst heavy trash.

Thanks Andy,

I will keep this under advisement.
Do you see any advantage to the elliptical style coils?

I have always thought with my White's XLT that it was a better configuration.
But I do understand that the Minelab are DD anyway.

It is just that it seems the elliptical would squash the pattern down to something that would see through the trash better.
Maybe this is just an assumption or visual sleight of hand.
