What size coil do you use on your Excal and why ?

Mine has the 10 inch that came on it about two years ago. I've not had any problems with the machine so I'm not changing nothing. The 10 inch works great for me so unless I have a problem I won't change it. I understand why people change but I don't see changing mine out as long as it is working as well as it is right now. I have'nt heard anyone complain about any coil changes they have made. Those Excalliburs are such good machines apparenly any size works well. Good Luck and HH :minelab:

I have a eight inch coil on the Excalibur 800. Depending on conditions I have used small coils while hunting in trashy areas. I use larger coils when I can. I try and have most all the sizes of coils for each metal detector I have. If you have the right tools to do the job it makes life a little easier.

WOT on 2 of them and stock 10 on the Excal 2 until the warranty runs out and then who knows-Bigger IS Better!

I had the origional horseshoe coil one when they first came out. Then I got a blue one with an 8" coil. Now I have the 10" coil yellow headphone 1000. I was going to get the 800 with the new model, I believe it is easier to find your target in the scoop, but with all the practice over the years, I opted for the small increase in depth/ wider scan area for beach hunting, the 10 " coil. Wish they had quick connect/disconnect optional coil setups from the factory! HH:geek:

ive had my excal 2 1000 for 3 years now and i love it, works great for me in all areas ive been hunting, check out my face book page and you can see all my pictures of my finds with mine..only thing i changed on mine was a mod for am/pp mode switch for grab handle on shaft to make it easier, this mod works great too....
good luck to all

8" coil on the Excal to me looks like a stick. Not enough coverage but a friend does great with his. 15x12 was too much drag in the water on my GT but is my everyday land coil. 10" on my GT is great in the water. Not too much drag so I can swing it about as fast as I like (maybe a hair slower than I like too). A 12x10 or S-12 or Excelerator 12.5" might be no more hassle in the way of drag than the 10" but I'm not sure since I don't have those to try. I see a lot of S-12 users on the forums use those water hunting. I would guess then that the drag isn't bad for that coil and so it shouldn't be bad for the 12x10 or 12.5" Excelerator. All I know is the 15x12 was wearing me out trying to slug it through the water because of the drag. Sure, I could swing it slower and be fine but I prefer a medium sweep speed, not a crawl at a snail's pace. In my tests around here a medium sweep speed gives the best response on deep targets while in "searching" mode of swinging back and fourth. Swing too slow or too fast and the target is gone at the fringes of depth.

John,
That is a good idea, thinking about doing that too mine once the warranty has expired. Did you do this yourself or is there someone on the web that will do this? Also, is the switch waterproof? Don't care about diving just want to make sure it's ok to get it wet and probably submerged while beach/water hunting. Thanks, John

15 inch WOT....won't leave home without it. Original 10 inch on my Excalibur II 1000 was good......the WOT is way better. Deeper.......more coverage.......but in trashy areas it is a bit much....but in the water....look out.......especially in the Gulf waters or on sandy beaches.

My WOT paid for itself in the first two days. Found a gold class ring in an area pounded by my E-trac and 10 inch coil on my Excalibur II. It was down about 14 inches in very sandy loose soil......maybe I missed it by not putting the other coils over it....but the 15 inch WOT coil really covers the ground......got $400 for the ring.

I have mine spliced in hard. Did not like the waterproof connectors. Don't see a need to change coils with the WOT.
