I would like to use some of my stimulas check to get a better detector than the one I have, there is only one part of the river in town that is low enough to walk around where people swim the most, it is probably 3 to 4 feet deep and I would like to detect there but most of my other detecting will be done on land, would I have to get 2 different detectors, 1 for land and one for the water or is there a reasonably priced one that I can use on the land but is also water proof enough to use in the river?

For occasional shallow wading I would recomend a Fisher 1236X2. Chest mounting will let you go waist deep or a little deeper and they work great for hunting iron infested fresh water areas. One good find would pay for it as they are very reasonably priced. If you can live without tones and target ID they are hard to beat for fresh water hunting and of course they are great coin/relic detectors as well. At the going price of $320.00 it's hard to beat a 1236X2 for a solid, well built reliable detector.

Hi,

Some people prefer multi tone machines and can't live with a single tone detector like the 1236 for land hunting..

HH Tom[/quote] I get what you mean, the machine I have only has one tone so I am used to that.

For freshwater detecting, I'll stick my neck out and say there are only two machines worth considering:

Tesoro Tiger Shark
Fisher 1280-X

I spent the best part of last summer testing various water machines in the freshwater lakes and rivers here in SC. This included the Whites BHID, the Detector Pro Wader and others. Others will work, of course, but you dont need the expense or weight of the high dollar detectors.

End result is, if you are a "freshie" by choice or location, get either one of these. You can hardly go wrong.
