I Was walking on a boardwalk yesterday, and saw a man digging for goods with his $40 metal detector that he bought at a garage sale. I saw what he had in his hand; coins, old and new and a gold necklace with a charm on it. I was hooked.
But what to get? The little I have read about the Ground Hawk the more it seems to get to the point without all the bells and whistles. What do you suggest? Will this one help me with the little to the Big adventures? Do I need a pin-pointer?

Any help would be great; I want to purchase one asap

Thank you

John

Garrett Ace 150 or 250 lol. I havent owned one or used one for that matter but I have visited numerous sites since starting this hobbie and these detectors have a huge fan club. If I had'nt purchased a bh for my first already and waited a bit, I would be sold on the ace just due to the overwhelming amount of praise found on it. Theres alot of detectors out there so it just depends on what all you plan to do with it and research which is the best detector for your price range etc. Most peeps will tell ya that the key to any metal detector is your willingness to be patient and learn the detector.

I would agree...get a tracker IV, or the Commando (Tracker IV in cammo)...They are inexpensive, and have found enough to support one member on this forum...I still want one for a backup machine. A Pinpointer is a great addition to your arsenal, but on the beach, I do not think it would be needed too much. Invest in a good Sand Scoop, and coil cover.

I would suggest the tracker IV also, they may be inexpensive, however they do a fantastic job!! You can update to more complicated detectors as your skill level improves. Live your dreams! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

My Sharp Shooter II's do a nice job...:bounty::detecting:

Ok now Iam curious. I want a low cost beach detector that performs well in the wet sand. My old Discovery 2200 could not do it [bless its old heart I know it tried]. I have not even tried my new TR at the beach, but I already doubt. I am not going to even try something that does not say Bounty Hunter on the package. Not that Iam brand loyal, its just those other guys piss me off. [don't get me started on them] Any ideas?

The only other detector I know that doesn't give folks grief is the Compadre:tesoro: I have read several hundred posts on this forum, and the BH's and the Compadre have the least complaints. Which to me is crazy seeing how some of these guys are spending thousands on their detectors. My buddy :pulltab:dog, has a Compadre, one knob, a speaker and that is it. He is always scoring cool stuff.

With the tracker IV you can hunt the wet sand if you follow this advice! Keep your sens at 2 oclock, keep your coil 2" above the sand and keep your coil height constant and swing speed slow. I find lots of goodies at these settings on extreme minealized beaches here in OZ. (multiple black sand layers). HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

I have a BH 202 which is the same as the Quick Draw II. I also have a Ace 250 which I got when I listened to all the hype about the 250. After two years use of the 250 there is just not all that much difference between the two, no matter what anyone tells you.

The biggest difference? The BH 202 comes with a 5-year warranty and the Ace 250 comes with a 2-year warranty. Performance wise they are in the same ball park.

My 2-cents worth would be the BH 202/Quick Draw II, the Tracker IV, Lonestar or the Ace 250.
