What settings do you try when hunting a new site?

I have been using the explorer XS for about 1.5 yrs. I have had good luck, but not what I think is possible. I find myself not changing anything but the sensitivity, when hunting a new site. I always noise cancel several times, but don't change much else.
This is to the experienced explore users. What settings do you change when searching different sites? What do you find makes the biggest difference?
Thanks for any help. I may be getting stale in my technique.

I pretty much always use the same settings too, iron mask -12 to -15 switching from ferrous to conductive mode depending on how much iron or non ferrous targets.. Once in a great while if I hit a place full of modern trash I will go into a coin pattern... .. but the other settings I leave alone, unless I decide to up or lower the gain or sensitivity...Cant miss much if your always in iron mask
