What setting would you use?

Hi all!
I've been hunting a rather large park in my area here, and I was wondering if you could give some input..
The park is quite old (late 1800's) with a fair amount of trash in it. The settings I've been using so far are
Ferrous-coin, combined
Manual sens at around 22-24 (machine suggests around 14)
Fast on
Screen wide open, except of the very bottom line

On some days I've been doing quite well (considering the fact that is has been pounded to death), including a seated dime at 10", other times I spent 5 hours there with absolutely nothing to show for. The seated was found with the 17" coil, and I've also tried my luck with the 6" and stock coil
Would you recommend other settings, and what would be your preferred coil?
I know it's a long shot to ask for settings without knowing the park, but I was just wondering if I'm missing something important with my settings.
Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Marc

I don't know about settings for your park, but I hunt about 90% of the time using the 17" coil. I find I can cover a lot of ground, which has increased my silver finds.

I like using the 17" coil, but I think that some of the areas are just too trashy for it.
Im going back there tomorrow, and I still haven't decided yet whether to go with the 17" or the 6"...

In the trashy areas Is it iron or non ferrous? might try high trash I like hunting those areas and do well because others avoid it like the plague slow your sweep speed and try a full open screen to avoid blanking and definitely stock or smaller coil. The 3030 will excel in high trash just play around with it and see what works for you
good luck
hh Jeff

Laplander,
It's both, quite few nails and lots of newer non-ferrous trash like pull tabs and such.
I used the 6" coil for the first 3.5 hours today and found 2 wheaties (1924 and 1911) and a military button. Still, it's a tremendous amount of work and my ears are still ringing..
But, I've found decent stuff there before, just not in the last 25 hours I spent at the park over the last month.
But I'll keep trying, I know there's got to be some goodies left.

Cheers!
Marc
