What Say You?

I am new to using my MXT, have read the materials, etc.

I find nails, lots of nails, they are always quarters on the meter. I went with a friend with an XLT and he would pinpoint a target, I would sniff it with my MXT and it was always iron. He would dig up a clad quarter almost everytime.

Back home, I pulled out a piece of gold from my mineral collection and it always read iron in prospect mode, nothing in relic mode and iron in coin mode.

Settings are all to the default values as given in the book - on the little triangles, threshold at just able to hear.

So am I doing something wrong or is this MXT weird?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I would send it in to be checked out sounds like you got a bad one.......... And I say this because gold will not read as iron in the prospect mode and should get a good reading in the relic mode. It should give a ZIP ZIP sound

I concur with Hillbilly. Mine MXT has never shown the problems you mention Burien. You probably should go back to your dealer or directly to White's to have it checked out. Best of luck. I know it's no fun to be without your detector for very long.

couple things was your ground in lock or salt mode, other turn machine on leave on remove battery case while on it might reset itself after battery case is removed turn machine off leave battery out for few minutes put back in and see if it works better.Next turn machine off put ground control in lock put other trigger in prospecting mode turn on when you look at screen the ground number or gnd number should read 83 this is a factory setting.Next turn machine off put ground trigger in ground not lock mode put other trigger in prospecting mode turn machine on watch screen went it start to read battery check at that time put ground trigger in lock next screen should give a gnd reading of 50 another factory setting. One other thing i would check is the battery's themselves and see if they all are inserted in the correct position.Hope my instruction were clear and correct hope this helps. You could also have a bad pin or a lose pin in the connection cable were the coil plugs into the control box or possible a bad coil.I would try a different coil that works on mxt first to see if this changes thing. If dealer is nearby take to him he probably has different coil you could try for a few minutes.Good luck

At the top of coil itself see if nut is to loose and wipe coil down with a rag or sponge to see if any thing is stuck to it. If you have a coil cover see that no iron particles or sand is in between the cover and coil

Oh you guys got me pegged! Turned out to be a multiple of problems, the ground lock probably being the (cough, cough) most simplest. Seems to be working better today. (cough, cough!)

Thank you all soooo much!
