What percentage of finds do you give to landowners.

Some landowners ive come across dont care one hill of beans about what you find, others want to split and some want it all. Do you guys dig at places where the landowners want all the finds? I always try to look out for the landowners but it seems to get me into a place sometimes. It starts out hey just show me what you found and then I give them something and then its on from there the treasure bug hits and they want more or all of it. You guys ever experience this?

When digging on someones place, I try to work that out specifically. I try to initially find something that they know they have lost. Sockets/tools around the garage anything that they have a vague idea of where to maybe look for a lost ring of keys or s piece of jewelry. If i can find that, then they usually will let me keep looking and keep what i find. They are already satisfied.

If its just a cold call, stop and knock, and nothing is sorted out, I will discretely mark or note the locations of targets and maybe dig just one or two of the best ones, and see whats coming out of the ground...take a break and show them what you are finding...if they have that gold fever Gholum "Precious Mine" glare in their eyes I just offer up the few I dug and go on my way....I am not digging shit up to give away. I tell them there could be more and work out a split 50/50, or if they want everything, then I will scan their property ( average sized yard) for a flat rate of $25- $30 bucks... I have had three people pay me to scan their yard once i approached them,,, Its rare, and even when the owners don't care what you find or keep, I always give them something especially if it is something that has little intrinsic value, and is more of a relic of the past or a lost memento... But I sort all of that out BEFORE i dig up the goodies.

I try to do that too but my one of my good spots got changed mid stream to we want it all after I had given them some very prized finds. I will not be hunting there anymore.

IF you deal with humans, you are bound to be disappointed, we are complicated animals...never good when someone tries to change the play when the ball is in the air.

I usually don't find anything worth worrying about, if the land owner wants all my finds I'm moving on down the road. My feelings are the land owner is entitled to anything that is related to his property, everything else you should be able to keep, that seems fair to me.

I would refer to give all finds back to the owner, not the junk of course but coins and relics. That's the approach i have when first meeting with owners.

And when possible displayed in a glass display when finds are in abundance, depends on the individual detectorist some are into the hobby for historical reasons so it's quite easy to part from finds in particular cases like these.

Plus, It opens doors for future hunts. Owners trust you, giving you lifetime detection on historical sites.

I always tell land owners i keep all the coins i find but will give them any jewelry or other personal items i might find.
Its a personal thing with me, i find it creepy keeping jewelry or other family personal items on a land owner's property....just me.

Also i'll mention, in the 'unlikely' event, if i find any large stashes of gold maybe even silver coins for example, we split based on the appraisal but i get the option of keeping any coins of my choice. Sadly that never happened nor do i expect it to happen. Yeah, i'm a self proclaimed pessimist! lol
But, saying that always seems to seal the permission especially on pre or depression era properties.

Hey calabash,
This is my approach. Before the hunt I make the agreement that if the finds are
few we each take a turn picking items with the property owner having 1rst dibbs.
If the finds are plentiful the owner gets the 1st 2 picks and then we each get a turn.
Has always worked for me. Like you said some don't care and that really makes my
day if the finds are a little plentiful. Just want to say your VID's are awesome and I
have been swing''n the Deus since 2014 and attended Andy's 1st Boot Camp in
Tennessee and that really stepped up the learning curve for me. Keep up the
Great Work my friend. Detecting took kind of a back seat last year but got out a
few times last year but made some nice finds for the little time I got out....
The Deus is just AWESOME!!!
