Okay, I thought that ALL of the Fishers models were made in the USA. Well I found a picture of a label on the under side of a Fisher 1236x-2 that would indicate other manufactures.
Now I looked around on my new F2 and I couldn't find a made in any country label,
Same for the CoinStrike.
Mark, if it says made in Los Banos it is made in the USA. I bought a new 1236x-2 last spring and when I opened it up it said assembled in malaysia on the tag on the bottom of the control box.
I boxed it back up and sold the detector. I believe the coinstrike is made in the USA towards the end of the Los Banos era of Fisher. The F2 is a First Texas product so who knows where it was made.
My guess is it was probably built by some guy named Whan Hung Lo who works for a dollar a day. Take a look on fleabay, about 90% of the detectors for sale there are products of the new Fisher.
They flood the market with cheap mass produced muffler on a stick detectors. I'm a huge fan of the old Fisher detectors. Still use a cz5, but not even interested in the new stuff produced today by Fisher.
off shore. Yes, and there were quite a bit of the 1236's that were made here in the US also. Recent production has them being assembled in Texas from component's that came from the Los Banos, CA plant.
So to find a foreign made 1236x2 would not be unusual, because most were made off shore for many years. Didn't hear of any complaints then, shouldn't be any now when discovering a older unit.
Coin Strikes, ID Excel, ID Edge's were manufactured from a different regime than the 1236 crew. They were made in CA & Texas.

The "old Fisher" (read that as Los Banos) farmed out the 1236x2 to China. When First Texas bought them, they quit farming them out and started making them in house again, until the day they were discontinued.
My first detector was a muffler on a stick. Made in the USA. If it hadn't been for that muffler on a stick, I wouldn't have entered the hobby.

I know this isn' the F series forum, but let me ask you this. I have a newer F2 and I still have the box and papers that came with it. The thing is Nowhere can I find where its manufactured,
Not the box,
Not the manual,
Not the detector,
Not the coil,

The F2 is a made in USA detector.
The China made stuff is easy to spot because they have to have a "Made in China" sticker on them somewhere for import purposes. That is why you see that sticker everywhere and on just about everything. There are no requirements for "Made in America" stickers for goods made for sale in the USA. The Made in America stickers you sometimes see are just promotional advertisement.
