My point for suggesting the coin screen is for beginners to learn deep signals without having to pick between different sounds. I use this screen when I am hunting for coins and this summer I have found 150 silver coins and over 100 pre 1900 copper coins and almost all of them are the result of learning how to tell a deep signal. And my main interest is relics not coins. So I don't even spend allot of time looking for coins. I will miss gold coins but I don't know anyone here who has ever found a gold coin. My advice is, once you can pick a coin at 14" then go ahead and use iron mask to ensure you don't miss all of the other goodies. Have fun Richard

You've been doing excellent with your pattern and I can see why you stick with it... You've gotten many nice coins, buttons, etc. that were in beautiful condition Your ground conditions up there are pretty nice compared to the ground here at home. I'm finding, increasingly, that the really deep stuff here doesn't like the upper right corner much and bounces around a bit, so I have to suffer with having to open up the discrimination quite a bit to get them. Relics mean very little to me as I'm a coinshooter, first and foremost, but I still get a kick out of finding old coins, buttons, bullets, etc. that hit in some unexpected areas on the screen.... I dig my share of trash in those ranges too, but that comes with the territory here After all, I don't want to mislead anyone... the majority of good finds like that upper right corner. I'm just one of those glutton's for punishment that have to dig anything that has a remote chance for being a good target. Take care and good luck with your nice finds up there Mike.

That is something I haven't considered. The ground is definatly different down South. When I was in Hartford I couldn't beleive how the copper coins were. That must be really dishartining for you guys. If only we had as much history up here, it would be like living in detector heaven. All the best of luck to you Mike. Maybe you will make it up to the great white north some day and I can take you out for a hunt. Richard
