What makes your day on a find?

I think this can go for new and experienced diggers alike. What item or items do you get more excited about finding. Is it a gold ring, a relic, Civil war items, rare coins, or something I have missed.

Since I haven't detected many sites or that often with my old detector I am still pretty new. Last year I did find a sterling silver necklace that would go for about $80-$100 new. This year so far my best find is a Buffalo nickel. I think I was more excited about finding the buffalo than the necklace.

What does that say about me a detector? I don't know, but all of it has been fun.

So what items still excite you each time you find them?

I'm a beach and water hunter, any gold, silver, or platinum jewelry gets me going. Because I am a beach and water hunt though...I have only found 1 silver dime in 2+ years of hunting. When I pulled my one and only Mercury dime out of a lake last summer it was like hitting a monster gold ring...I was sooooo excited!!! I have found my fair share of gold and silver rings, and a nice platinum...but none had any nice size ice. So the next find that will Really get me excited will be a ring, earring, or pendant with a nice little chunk of ice. Also, Any more silver coins since they are elusive in my type of hunting. Its coming...oh yes it is!!

jbr13,
The excitement for me is I never know what I'm going to dig or scoop out of the water. Like Dancer, I found a 1944 mercury dime in the water last year and it was my second merc in less than a month and the first ones I had ever found. I found a liberty quarter with the date too faded to read and a 1942 S quarter.
The rings and chains I found were a nice find, but the mercury dime and liberty quarter really got me going. But that's just it, you never know what's going to be found next. I have a lot of firsts on my wish list and hope I find some of them this year and look forward to your posts of your finds with the AT/Gold.

I've found plenty of the jewelry and coins also. Don't get me wrong, I still love it when golld, silver or platinum come up. However I get the biggest kick when I dig up a token.

I am happy to get any hunt in, and won't go home until I get at least a few coins. Getting silver coins or gold rings is a real bonus, I choose to hunt mostly hunt by myself, and even just the exercise and fresh air makes me feel good. It's a fantastic hobby for sure

Hi, this is a good topic to discuss. Sorry for my bad English.
I was very excited my first gold ring, with a plus because I think, you work hard to get it. I was excited and I jumped up two tears.
I also remember my first silver ring, with nice big bonus that hunting was over.

This iron axe, probably my oldest piece.

and this bronze bracelet ... of indeterminate age ....

But what excites me most is undoubtedly the first coin sack in each place. I have a record, always, repeat, always take at least one coin on each hunt, from the first to the last day.
Best regards

I'm a loner myself, John. Not because I don't like people, but I just like to get off by myself. It's peaceful and enjoyable. Plus, if I get ready to go early that's fine and if I want to stay late, that's fine.

Crows like to fly off with shiny objects, Leslie. That's what I call "ring around the collar."

You asked for it, Les! And then Fongu pipes up that its not that he don't like people, its just that MOST of them he cant stand! Oh well, I like the solitude, and getting lost in my own weird thoughts when I hunt...but I'm seriously after GOLD and SILVER, and PLATINUM each and every time I leave the house. The whole adventure of the hunt, I go out with the intent on finding something large and valuable. Concentrating on those signals, my perfect day is when I read the signs right, hunt the right spot, and find that target. Oh, I'm happy with a stinky pile of clad or whatever else comes along, but what really trips my trigger is a target that has a big monetary value. Is that bad?
