What makes my Exp. null out after it finds a target.

Howdy folks, I was just out today, first day this year, I was using my Explorer with the 8" Sunray coil.
Seems that when I would find a target, when working it with the "Wiggle" it would just disappear.
I did dig a couple of nice deep nails, used the learn mode to get rid of that, then it would not ring on a penny.
I have only been using the Explorer for two years, and seems that I always go back to the Sovereign.
Maybe I am just plain too dumb to ever master this machine.
I am considering trading for a dog, and then shooting the doggie.
Seems that the probe is hot too regardless what it touches.
I kind of feel like a kid with dirty pants , but someone must have some ideas on this.
Best to all.

thats pretty much iron falsing, just ignore the ones that disappear but dont reject them or you will lose targets in that area that are repeatable

I quite often go to iron mask at -10 to -12 to actually see the target causing the null and for me it makes it easier to determine if I am getting iron falsing or a real target.

If a target doesn't repeat the ods are it's a rusty nail or an iron something. Just move on until you find something that locks on and stays there. You might try going to ferrous sounds. That way the iron will have a low tone instead of high.

And he fussed and fought with his Explorer until he set it up with tones to ferrous and ran it in iron mask -8. This was close enough to the Sovereign's all metal mode or whatever and he was happier.
As with most high octane metal detectors, you can reduce the number of falses that you have to deal with by scaling back on sensativity. You should also check your targets from 2 angles and leave those that you can only get from one direction.
Look for and dig the easily repeatable targets - your learning curve will flatten with more positive recoveries. And having some success is a good thing for both you and puppies everywhere.
