What kind of TID should I get from a small

brass plate on the X-terra 70? I can't find any brass at my house to test, and I'm looking for a token hidden by our MD club. I know where it's at, but I scoured the area, and no luck. Only had the X-terra 70 for two days now, so still learning. A picture of it is below. Any help would be appreciated!

Use pattern 1. That kind of stuff sounds and IDs similar to pennys for me and some times dimes and quarters.

the TID of that brass plate will depend on the size. Could be anywhere from a 12 on up. But it ain't just that plate. The same holds true for all targets. For example, a silver dime is the same metalic content as a silver dollar. But as the size of the target increase, so will the number provided by the TID reading. If you know about where it is located, go back over the area using less discrimination. Setting your Pattern mode to reject anything on the positive side of the conductive range could cause you to miss not only this brass plate, but rings, lockets, small/deep silver coins etc. JMHO HH Randy

I used pattern 1, which i think just discrims out the negs and +48. I figured that it would give a pretty solid signal, not sure on the size of it, but I can probably find out. I dug all of the solid signals, mid 20's and up, and any solid signal around the nickle range. The park has a lot of odd trash in it, all kinds of scrap building materials i think from the newer houses around it, found a whole doornob, nice! And not a single coin from 3 hours of hunting, I'm guessing I need to get the hang of the machine a little more. Have done lots of reading on the X-70, just need to put the hours in now. Thanks for the help!

Juat keep at it! If you are looking for coins remember the chart in the FAQFAQ. I dug my share of brass. A few nice pieces and some junk. Save the junk brass, copper, and recycle it at the end of the year it will add up, Beale.

Ok, just found out that the token is 1 1/2" x 3" and about 1/4" thick brass. It's pretty big, high 30's low 40's maybe? Makes me fairly confident that I never got my coil over it.

I was wondering are you sure someone else did not find it before you went over it ?

No one has posted that they have found it yet, and the area is about the size of a football field. I got to the park just a couple of hours after the most recent clue was given, and no one else was there. I've probably only hit about 1/3 of it, so by scoured I meant lightly hit :)

Sounds about right. Like you said, it's just a matter of putting the coil over it. HH Randy

Here is a railroad baggage tag I found a couple of years ago using the X-Terra 50.
It gave an ID reading of 36 which is the same ID that most copper pennies give on this detector.
It measures roughly 1 3/4" x 1 5/8". I was surprised it didn't give a higher ID number due to its size.
It is made of brass material.
Hope this helps some,
Felix

Argh, day two still no token. Did find a few clad coins today, but the park is just full of junk and the grass is really gnarly. Apparently an apartment burned down there, and they put a park in over it. Found a drain to a shower today. I don't know if I can waste any more time there even if finding it is worth $20 in club dues. Only about 1/3 left to search, but if I finish griding it off and haven't found it yet, sheesh, I'll be extremely disappointed! Maybe I'll just wait for the next clue and hopefully it will have GPS coordinates :)

just read all of the replies lets look at this another way 1. do you know the person that planted it is he familiar with the park? 2 look at the area you are about to hunt and think if i planted the token would i put it at center mid field or maybe off bye a goal or look for odd thing that maybe stands out if the clues narrow it closer each time think like that good luck pat

That's exactly the logic I used when hunting the first day, where would I put it, and do the clues lead me to a more specific place, no dice! Then I started making a grid of the rest of it. I need to get back to testing out my new machine on a decent park doing what I got it for, coin shooting. Maybe I'll go back after a bit of fun, searching for it just seemed like work in that nasty park, not to mention the park is not old, so not much possibility of finding anything good while token searching.

Is it in the ground? How do you know its not in a tree?

Jeff

What about a brass Yale key as a starter?

That's in the 30's, so a plate should be between 35 and 40....May be a tad higher, depending on its THICKNESS.

Disc out minus 8 and up to plus 28,and save yourself a headache.

2 tones will allow just one tone for targets of interest...........TheMarshall
