Here's a few pics of my mystery quarter. The thing is not fat like the pictures make it look. Roughly a bit thinner than a quarter, but about a quarter in size for the most part (maybe a tad bigger in diameter with the damage)...

I wasn't even sure this was a silver quarter until I looked under a loop at home, but I suspected it was based on the sweet high tone it gave and the silver look and being heavier than aluminum. On closer inspection at home I can see stars on it, so it is a silver quarter. Just a question of which type. Washingtons don't have stars on them but standing liberties, barbers, seated, and bust quarters do from memory here.
I *think* I see (?) more stars under the stars at the rim. If that's the case, then that rules out a standing liberty quarter, as it only has them at the rim. I know barbers have more stars under the rim of stars so I'm guessing it's at least a barber if I'm seeing right here? From memory I don't remember if seateds or busts have more stars under the rim of stars, so if they don't, and I'm seeing more than rim stars here (?), then that would rule those out and mean it's a barber.
Need to re-check my coin book again today and figure this stuff out. I did yesterday but my brain was so friend trying to see any patterns for a good 20 minutes on this thing that I need to look at the book again with a clear mind.
The front of this coin looks totaly gone I suspect, and what I'm showing below is the best part of the backside, which it should be the back of the coin with the stars at the rim I can see. All else is anybody's best guess here and I sure can use some help on this. I know it's only worth it's scrap weight but I still very much would like to know just what kind of quarter this is. I've only dug one seated quarter in the past, and no bust quarters but I have dug a bust dime (1835) and some seated dimes. I'm guessing barber here but even though it's completely destroyed, if I can hang my hat on it being a seated then that's #2 for me, or if it was a bust then that's my first bust quarter.
By the way, I suspect this coin was dragged under a bulldozer blade, because if it was ran over by a train it would be flat without ripples and valleys in it I would think, plus it has heavy abrasions on it that I just don't see a train doing like this. Thanks for any "best guess" you guys can provide on it's identity...
