What kind of sealant is best for the battery compartment on the AT Pro?.

I noticed its a gell but whats best to keep out the sand, dirt and water?

Silicone grease, just like you use for dive gear. Just a little, not a bunch.

I asked for silicone grease at our local hardware store, and they handed me Faucet & Valve Grease. Says it's waterproof and resists high temperatures. I have been hesitant to apply it to the O-ring as I am not sure if it's the right stuff. Anybody know ? It does not say on the tube what the contents are composed of .. In other words .. it does not say "Silicone Grease" anywhere ..

Lowe's plumbing section has silicone grease. It is white in color. Be careful because you can also get plumbers silicone grease which is brownish color and not what you want... It comes in a small round blue tub, that's tub not tube, about $5 or $6 and is enough to probably last you the lifetime of your detector...

Thanks Kris .. that is exactly what they sold me. It's brown and smells like 80/90 gear oil. I am very happy I did'nt use it. I will go back and exchange it ..

I went to a local dive shop and the guy sold me the silicone that they use on dive stuff. He said to rub a dab on your 2 fingers good and then lube the seal real litely. DON'T OVER DO IT! enough to put aa shine on the seal. That's what he told me to do.

Brown is the WRONG stuff...it should look clear or slightly whitish in the container...

HH,

Thanks everyone...will get some tomorrow...saw plenty of sand on the outside and dont want to let the ring dry out with exchanging the recharging batteries every time i go out...does it need to get greased down every time or just when i notice its drying up?

I grease mine each time I replace the batteries...I wipe off the old grease with a lint free cloth (old cotton diaper), then regrease...About every 3 battery changes, I wipe out the whole inside and cap with a lint free swab soaked in 92% alchohol, then make sure it is completely dry and regrease and re-assemble...If the rubber seals become cracked or tear, you can find replacements at most hardware stores in the plumbing section...just get the right diameter ones...

HH,

I guess I assumed that Garrett would provide replacement seals for a nominal fee. Has anyone requested them from Garrett before? And what did they cost?
