What kind of larger digging tools are being used?

I was shopping around on the net for a larger shovel for digging in farm fields or in the woods, and I see that lesche makes several models, but I don't really want to spend that kind of money for something that I wouldn't use very often. What is everyone else using? I stumbled across a "cold steel throwing shovel" that seems bulletproof. No idea how well it digs, but it seems to do everything else pretty well. I also found something called a "dibble bar" that looks like you could pry boulders with it.
Opinions?
Thanks.

Bill, is the AT really that deep? I have been thinking about buying one in the near future.

I still think you are better off biting the bullet and investing in a Lesche. In the end it will save you money. You can go through $20 shovels pretty quickly. One tough root and 'snap"! I know $60 is a lot to invest but in the end it will be the best investment for you.

Even if you do not do a lot of detecting, it is great for digging out shrubs as well.

But they are excellent shovels for working around in the yard!! My Lesche shovel is the first thing my wife grabs to dig in her flower beds. Great all around tool. And remember...you get what you pay for!!!

[size=large]one of the selling points for the lesche is it's less intrusive looking. doesn't look like you're gunna dig the place up. jmo

My personal favorite is a D9 Cat! :surprised:
Other than that, I just take a folding army shovel for heavier digging. My detecting buddy likes a full length shovel.

Yeah, I use my "E-tool" alot(folding Army shovel)also when field hunting/woods, etc. Sometimes while field hunting I'll do all the swingin' and my better half will follow with standard sized "D-handled" shovel. I do like the looks o'those Lesche Ground Shark type shovels that alot o'guys use while relic hunting. Here's a link to different shovels on KellyCo:

Please do not these in a city park or residential yard/lot. Of course, for that type of digging one would use a regular Lesche or garden trowel type digger. Or, even a screwdriver like some guys are proficient at using.

Happy Hunting!:)

Metalhead, no worries about me using something like that in a park or residential area! I figure that if I can't make the hole unnoticeable when I'm done, I'm not going to dig at all. I don't think any target is worth trashing someone's yard over. Good hunting sites are too hard to find as it is!
