What Kind of Eye Hook is this?:whites:

This item is approx. 1/2" in thickness, 6.5" long, and 3.5" wide.
It appears that the top of the loop has been hammered on and the spear point end must have been hammered into wood?
I dunno as I have never seen anything like this.
It seems to be iron or steel but is very heavy and seems a little bit like it has some copper content.

Thanks for looking.

ojm bc got it right.
these are still used in the timber world. They are called 'dogs' in woods terminology.

Thanks guys, I had a guess that this might be what it was for.
I found it in an old sidewalk repair site about 20 blocks uphill from the river's edge.
But I understand that the river originally came up to the area before all the dams and other restructuring.

Before logs got a chance to float downstream they were dragged by horses a few at a time from the stump to the the rivers edge. Your "dog" was what made the log trail behind the horse like a dog on a leash.

WOW

Thanks gordygroover for the update on this hook.
It's great to know what the meaning and use of a relic is all about.
I think it is cool all corroded like it is even if it never realizes a cent in value.
