What is your favorite uMax coil for hunting in trash?

The 5.75 concentric coil for the real trashy areas and for general purpose the 8 inch concentric doughnut coil, because it works good in trashy areas and gets good depth.

For me the new Tesoro 12x10 DD.You have not ran a umax untill you try this lightweight coil that scans like the cleansweep.Tesoro put a lot in this coil.It should be available for separate purchase. This coil can even get it done in the trash if you learn it.The 12x10 should become Tesoro's choice for a stock coil.It would also help users in bad soil. But a good coil for trash for me would be the 7"solid DD.This is the coil gunnar uses on his video.

I got the 12 x 10 DD coil with the 3 coil package that come with the Outlaw. I was excited about getting it, because it covers a lot of area fast and has really good depth.

I tested it in my yard and it does separate well, so even being a larger coil it will do nicely in trash as you say.

Now for the bad news, it's too heavy for my bad shoulder. Keep in mind that I prefer and use a the 8 inch doughnut coil instead of the 9 x 8 coil because of weight issues.

I wanted to use it on my Golden

Well I have only used the 8" on my Silver uMax and it works so good I haven't even considered another coil. It has excellent target separation yet I still get the depth. From what I have read there is no need or advantage to a DD coil unless you have mineralized soil. I believe it was Monte and others who have said this several times. In mild soil a concentric coil will be deeper than a DD. Tabman has said before that the 8" concentric is an all around great coil that you can't go wrong with. I agree.

The big advantage of a DD coil is huge.Monte is old school.Even most manufactures are putting DD coils on there detectors as the stock coil.A modern detectorist will tell you real quick,a DD coil is the only way to go in heavy trash, iron.Even a small 5.75 concentric can not do what a DD can do.It is all about the coil output detection field.A DD can slice right in between trash with ease. The footprint .

Woo a short answer from monty, this is a rarity, as for me I found the 10x12 gets thru bits of iron better than the 7" DD beleive it or not I had a small pice of Iron that knoked out the 7" DD coil on a 5" buried dime but when i used the 10x12 it hit hard on it , if I hunt in threshold all metal i like the 7" DD in the trash as i can tell things apart better. but hear I have not even got that 10x12 out to a soccer feild yet this year , mostly farm feild hunting my finds this year are the worst in all my past 6 years, mainly because of the junk spots i hunt only .

I have a 7" concentric I use in the trashy parks around the Portland area that I really like. I have 2 DD coils for my Fisher, an 11" and a 5", and while they work great, I don't feel I get the target separation that I get with the 7" concentric in the trash. Just my opinion

Compadre with 5.75. I'm almost to scared to use anything bigger.

When I had my Vaquero, I really liked the 5.75" HOT Widescan coil for trashy areas and 8" for general hunting.

Monte, Which concentric do you prefer, the 7 or the 5 1/2?
Kind of a tough pick because I used a 7" Concentric on virtually every Tesoro I owned and toted around since the summer of '83 when I got a new Inca and Mayan. The 8

I can honestly say that I have liked evey Tesoro coil that 'i have ever used, have own and used the 4", the 5.75" the 5"DD, plus the 12x10 col that came wirth the Outlaw package. For a large coil is was exceptionally light and was very sensitive to jewelry and not af all hard to pinpoint with.

sorry double post...IDK whats going on with site, would show post so I tried to repost it, then they both appear lol  See my response below and disregard this one. :)

@Tabman I may be interested int the coil if you must part with it, let me know. That sucks your shoulder cant take the weight :( but if its just going to sit I would love to try one if the price is right.

I prefer the 5.75" for trashy sites

I already sold the 10 x 12 DD coil. I still have an extra 5.75 concentric coil that I don't need that came with the Outlaw package.

Tabman, I would be interested in the 5.75 coil if you are gonna part with it. Send me a PM if you want to get rid of it.
