What is your favorite Gold Pan?

Mike Hillis

Well-known member
I was looking at all the different gold pans in the 'Fist Full of Gold' book and then looking at my little green plastic 10" riffle pan.

I like my little green plastic 10" riffle pan. Garrett model I think. Not too heavy when I fill it up, fast separation, easy to carry around. Been know to use it as a hat a time or two.

But anyway, looking at the others I was just wondering what others liked and used.

Several years ago, I started using a Trinity gold pan. It has the coarse riffle on one side, a ribbed trap in part of the bottom, and a tiny sluice. Its more gagety than I normally like, but it works.

I still like to use a 6-8 inch finishing pan. The rough black plastic type work well to see the small stuff.

I find it interesting that at the gold shows the vendors of the unique pans really make them look good. That's why I have pans of many different shapes. I seem to go back to two, a shallow pan from Roaring Camp and Keene pans of different diameters.

Gareett green drop riffle for at least 30 years, sometime keene green and always my black flat bottom with raised riffles for final panning. Tried'm all made and some soooooooooooooo bad used as targets...John
