what is your approach

you find a house in an older area of town looks promising how do you get approval. I haven't done any houses of strangers. Some coworkers but no strangers. not really sure what to say but I'm getting tired of hunting the local parks with everyone els in town that has a detector.

I may post this els where but wanting to learn.

Just knock on the door and say: " Hi, I'm Bob and I'm an...". Sorry, wrong forum.

I usually just knock on the door at a reasonable hour or if I see someone in the yard, introduce myself and ask if I can metal detect the yard sometime...not on the spot. If further explaination is needed about metal detecting, recovery methods, finds and how they are distributed, we discuss accordingly. I usually ask on my way home from work with a shirt and tie or maybe at a garage sale after I buy something, call a phone number for the property is listed, etc...most but not all are very nice about it. I would watch for beware of dog signs or folks that have visible guns in the window however

good luck!.tell you what NOT to do!..don't go any where near the front door with a digging tool in plain view,or worse,a knife!....be smart,and make up some business
cards with your name, addy,and the slogan:. ".lost a ring,or other valuable?..i will find it for you at no cost"!.believe it or not,this DOES work!..i have done it!..never found what they lost,but gave it the old college try,and found some NICE coin!
